i don't think uhaulball has a 'run-flat spare tire' around his waist.

I weighed the car at a weigh station last night. The car is 3180lbs, no driver, and 3/4 tank of gas. So, 3345 with driver and a full tank, 3105 dry weight. I need to find 345lbs somewhere...

Seats should take off about 84lbs.
Wheels should take off about 25lbs.
Replacing the sunroof should take off 7-10lbs.
Then stuff like hood, trunklid, suspension, lighter exhaust should help...

I dont think the sunroof is worth it for 7-10lbs.

Better off getting lightweight wheels and tires.

Your nett loss wouldn't be 84lbs for seats though. Don't forget the roll cage will bring back some weight.

At this point, I'd concentrate on chassis stiffening, suspension, brakes and wheels. Next stage will be the drivetrain i.e. clutch, flywheel, intakes, exhaust, software tuning. Beefing up cooling systems wouldn't hurt either, try to fabricate some effective brake cooling ducts as well.

Then if you're really crazy you can talk about CF panels, lexan screens, plastic fuel cells ... heck just dip the whole body in acid to get rid of a couple of microns of steel (weight)

Can't wait to see it completed. Now all you have to do is paint it orange.

Rollbar is about 60lbs. I just got some help from my friend.

lighter rotors, remove plastic parts from engine, take off weather stripping in the engine bay, pull the fog lights if you have them, pull the front bumper and cut holes in the support beam, remove the stereo, remove sound deadening materials, pull ALL The carpeting, remove the oe clutch fan on the engine, wheel studs with open ended lug nuts.

I thought about replacing the rear side windows and rear glass with lexan...and I did think about filing random bits to reduce the weight.

WTF filing random pieces to save weight...too funny

That's almost like acid dipping isn't it.

How about drilling random holes in sheet metal?

Doesn't the sunroof weight a lot more than 7-10lbs? I was thinking 35-45lbs...

It actually strengthens the piece somehow...

Iunno, so far weight loss has cost me zero dollars. It may get a little expensive pretty soon though...

The whole mechanism weighs that much I think, Shim was talking about removing the just the glass panel piece and covering the hole with saran wrap

I asked my friend and apparently when you switch over to a full CF roof, your total savings is like 30lbs.

Shim, I think you officially have gone nutso, but I'll happily sit here and watch to see how light you can get the thing.

Can you pull the A/C (but, I guess, keep the heater for engine cooling)? Sorry to add fuel to your crazy fire.

There's an E46 racecar that weighs 2,400lbs with driver at RRT. That is all.
