Removing secondary cat....bad idea?

I really like the sound of the oem exhaust on my 07' 335i. I've got catless DP's, and the flap mod done. I'm going to be pulling the exhaust off soon to pull the driveshaft, and I'm wondering if I could remove the secondary cats while I have it off.......does removing them change the sound of the exhaust? If so, does it make it sound raspy and ricey? Any droning? I'm still running the oem muflers.

Just wondering....thanks!

Its going to sound like shit unless you add some resonators in place of the secondary cats.

Just sayin' - this is a public forum

Possibly the most pointless post ever. It's an enthusiast forum, almost every engine mod is an emissions violation. 😂

Ah, but you don't reside in Kalifornia, where a Highway Patrol inspection can and does lead to charges.

No. The most pointless post is: "What does that snowflake icon mean?"

How's the weather out there? My mama was from Morton.

I'm pretty sure CHP isn't actively perusing these forums and putting in the effort to track members cars down based on posts lol. Also, pretty sure almost every modded e9x here is an EPA violation including the Californians

Those popped have generally been waaay above the limit. But you can bet they'll check social forums for anyone running afoul.

I don't doubt that they're on here, just meant I doubt they'd put in the effort to hunt down specific cases based on forum posts. Plus OP doesn't seem to be in Cali so

Def does suck to deal with living here though, that's for damn sure

Usually the guys that cry in the end are the annoying ones running the max setting on the exhaust burbles and just down shifting at every corner and light.

This is true, but that's not to say it's not still a big hassle for a modded car here, the rest of us just suck it up and deal with it. I believe there was a thread on here recently where OP got failed for having a silicone hose instead of the rubber OEM one. Instant visual inspection fail

That also depends on the smog tech. If you know someone, which normally everyone does, you can have your car legitimately passed as long as your cats and such are there and your monitors are ready. Any smog tech knows those silicone hoses don't interfere with smog, but at the same time if they don't know who you are then they won't roll the dice because CARB some times sends cars and workers to the smog stations in Cali to see who's legit and who isn't.

Replace them with Vibrant 1792, 2.5" resonators or you will get Rasp. The car will only gain maybe 5hp, but you should notice the turbos spool up slightly quicker and it will be slightly quicker. With Catless downpipes & secondary cat delete, you've basically removed all of the back pressure on the turbos

Thanks for the info guys.

And no, I'm not in California.
And no, I don't have to worry about smog checks.

Oh no not you sorry, was referring to the OP of another thread posted here recently. You're lucky to not have as many hoops to jump through
