IHKA Problems...

Hi,

I had a friend bring me his 05/2007 E90 today. He got it cheap and has retrofitted a CCC. However, there are now faults with the IHKA, I'm stumped, anyone here an expert with the air con system to save him a trip to the dealer?

Symptoms:

- No air coming from any front vent
- Warm air blasting out from vents out of back of centre console. Never gets cold with air con on.
- When I up the fan speed I can hear the blower responding. Just air isn't getting out.

What I've checked:

- Fuses. All good.
- Coding. Reset to default.
- Wiring. Nothing obvious but only have limited vision.
- ISTA D - All flaps out of range at 255%. I guess not responding.
- 12v at connector to blower.
- From what I can see the CCC retrofit seems good. Coded to car etc etc. Dash seems installed correctly.

Fault Codes:

Heating / AC:
<--------------------------->
Air conditioning / Klimaanlage:
- Fault: Central control timeout
- Code: 009C48
- Fault: Mixed air damper law LIN
- Code: 009C49
- Fault: Fresh air / recirculation / air flow flap LIN
- Code: 009C4A
- Fault: Defrost flap LIN
- Code: 009C4B
- Fault: Footwell flap LIN
- Code: 009C4C
- Fault: Layering flap LIN
- Code: 009C4E
- Fault: Rear ventilation flap LIN
- Code: 009C50
- Fault: Rear ventilation flap LIN
- Code: 009C52

Any help appreciated. I'm out of my league with this...

Thanks for the reply. Contacts seem ok, no sign of water. I'm wondering if he damaged something when fitting the dash? Seems no coincidence this happened straight after dash removal and CCC retrofit.

Found the problem.

Faulty white connector on the back of the IHKA panel. Replaced and repinned connector and all is well.

I checked the wiring diagram on ISTA. Basically,

When the guy retrofitted CCC, he did so correctly but when reinstalling the IHKA panel he somehow must have disturbed the white connector on the back of the panel and broke several pins.

That white connector is for a local network (LIN) which go direct to the 8 ventilation flap stepper motors. Simply repairing the severed connection made it work.

To be honest I should have checked it earlier but I assumed ventilation flap motors where controlled like:

IHKA -> JBE -> Motors

However they are simply;":

IHKA -> Motors (Via a LIN)

I have the same problem with my 2007 E92 after fitting a Dynavin N6 Double Din unit that needed the seat heater panel relocated and the front IHKA panel to be relocated. The car is now now blowing hot Defroster air from front and back, no cold air or any air coming out of the front panel. No flashing snowflake but lots of errors. The Dynvin Unit came with a Canbus adapter and I even plugged the old deck back to see if that is what was causing the issue. With INPA I checked the front vents and all seem to blow air with various test modes but no AC. Checked the IHKA panel switches and they work OK, Any ideas what else could be wrong? My understanding of the hot defroster air blowing is to get you home fail safe mechanism. But, that is not ideal for here in Arizona. One thing that happened during the installation was, I accidentally let the battery die and had to recharge it.

Problem solved, ended up getting another IHKA panel from ebay; vents and A/C came to life. Plugged the old one back in and issue gone. Kept the old one plugged in as it had Chrome knob surroundings that matched the rest of the dash. Where as the ebay panel was from a 2006 325i and it was all black. Keeping the ebay panel as a spare. No coding was necessary to swap out the panel for the 2007 e92.

Im reviving this thread !

Having exact same issues but no retrofit or dash removal ever

I've replaced both climate control panel, IHKA control unit, and brand new fan blower motor/regulator

All Flaps reading !255 and just warm air coming from defroster vent

This does not seem common but Im having an issue finding answers
