doesn't dusting just create more swirls? I hang out with a lot of e90 friends. And when they lean/rub on my car I REALLY WANT TO KICK THEIR ASS.

But since I am a noob I can't say anything

When I look at my car under a fluorescent lamp, I just want to scream. I am slowing becoming deranged because of this jet black.

It's a toxic love-hate relationship..I hate her but I just can't turn my back on her, because when clean I still don't think any other color can look more beautiful - so I must bet on black

Definately do not dust your car, just use ONR to wash it, once you get used to it you can wash your car fairly quickly.

Jet Black is a pain to maintain, but you won't have to wax it after every wash. If you use a clean, mitt, sponge, etc, you should be fine. It's not as bad as people think it is. Just don't let teh dealer wash it or go to an automated car wash.
Let me tell you though, when it is clean, especially after a good detailing session, nothing beats it!

Forgot to add, does the car need to be absolutely spotless every minute? If it gets dusty, wash it. I am in NYC. In the winter, I usually just keep the wheels clean so that the brake dust doesn't stick to the wheel. As for the paint, I'll wash it if its warm enough. It's paint, it's not going to shrivel up and peel off if its dirty... Come spring time, do a full detail and the paint will look as good as new.

+1 ...

you don't need to wax it every time after you wash it ... you ca do it once a month ...

I have read alot on these forums about Zaino sealants. My Jet Black 335i sedan is difficult to keep swirless, but I use Zymol Concours carnuba ( the $100/12 oz. stuff) It always worked great on my othe Black cars, but I have yet to get the perfect application. Granted I took delivery late Oct., and my car is in the garage 95% of the time, has only 1,050 miles...but in bright sun swirls appear...almost hazy swirls, they are so fine...Another observation is the Jet black looks almost dark brownish..not Jet black when the sun is low, therefore hitting the car at low angles. Anyway, perhaps I should clay bar, do the Klassi, then the Zaino sealant....then the Zymoil. I always swore by the depth of shine of Zymol...I had always thought sealant had petro-chemicls, therefore would not be Carnuba friendly. Perhaps in my enthusiasm, I waxed the car without fully prepping (removing dealer applied crap) before its first wax. I thought if anyone could keep up with the required labor to keep the Jet Black perfect, it would be me. Especially since my car has never been driven in rain, or even wet roads. But I end up hesitating on beginning the whole process, because the end result has been unattainable to date. Looks perfect when the sun is not out, but under direct sunlight the gremlin swirls show up. Should I call David, Shimshimada, the Zaino master.....or is Jet black truely impossible to perfect?

I think a Master detailer can get it perfect. But for the rest of of humans, use
a glaze.

I noticed the other day that JB swirls very easily. I was walking aroung the car after washing to see what I would have to correct when the weather warms up. Damn.. swirls, swirls and more swirls.. Yet teh paint is still nice and glossy
