N53 injectors
Has anyone mixed index 11 with index 12?
I already have 3x index 11 installed (one bank) and just bought 3 new injectors from the main dealer hoping they’d also be index 11. What arrived in the post is index 12. When I questioned the dealer on this they told me that’s all that’s available through the dealer network. So the question is, has anyone recently replaced just 3 injectors and how did you get on? I know ideally I would replace all 6 but at £2,400 I’m not sure the car is worth it. |

They will be injectors originally intended for the N54 engine. N53 injectors are pretty much unavailable, so they're obviously substituting the N54 ones. As far as I know, if you're using the N54 injectors you must change all six. It's what I did when my N53's packed up and new ones weren't available. Worked fine with no issues so far. In fact I'd heard that BMW were due to 'combine' the injectors for both engines under one part number.

Same part number I used when I bought index 11.
I was discussing injectors with Cotswold in November, at the time they offered to supply 11s and said 12s were reserved for cars booked in with them for work. Looks like now it’s just 12s for n53 and n54 |

What is the part number on the injector? Is it ending 048 or 261?
If it is 261 they've sent you the N54 injectors. You can still get the 048s, and for less than cotswold want. There are also other places selling the 261 injectors for sub £300. |

Completely fine to run one one bank with a certain index and the other bank with another. Furthermore, 11 and 12 can even mix in one bank with no issues. You aren't supposed to mix 1-10 with 11-12 on the same bank though.

As far as I'm aware, N53 injectors with part number ending 048 only go up to index 11.
N54 injectors ending part number 261 go up to revision 12. Op, can you confirm the part number on your injectors please and or upload a photo? |

Do you have a source for this (other than Internet hearsay)? I've never been able to find a credible source for this. My N53 has run fine for several years with a mix of 9s and 11s across both banks.

The shop I use said it's in their technical service data. I said technically bc a lot of people do it with no problems, but most shops won't, whereas back in the day they were "allowed" to say put an index 9 in a bank of 7's.

Does that look new to you?
Also it makes no mention of index as far as I can see. Last edited by micdev42; 06-09-2023 at 12:34 AM.. |
