Speakers upgrade question
I have a 2007 e90 with option 676, no Idrive. Some time ago I have upgraded my amp to Bimmertech PP82DSP, which made a big improvement ( at least to me). 90% of the time I play music using aux port connected to my IPhone 4s via 9 pin connector. I was thinking about upgrading my stock speakers to plug-n-play set such as bavsound, mb quart or jehnert. By upgrading the speakers will the sound quality improve or not really much due to aux port limitations. Would you be able to recommend a different solution to improve the sound without spending to much on it?
Thanks |

I used focal IFBMW. Its wayyy cheaper if bought from the UK. Huge difference, even after tuning. The sound is clear and crisp but doesn't hurt my ears at all.

I believe some of the Helix/dsp have there own aux.
which is the 82dsp that bimmertech resells. You could try going through that or they also have a streaming dongle for Helix's to. see page 3 in the following link. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...tuwSX_RtV0tWXJ The Helix/Match speaker's are suppose to be pretty good they used to have a three way set to cover all the front positions floors and doors. The Jehnert xe 200's are one of the best underseats out there for the price very accurate detailed and warm not lacking in bass but not a bass heads idea of a subwoofer. Don't know about there door speaker in 4 inch but they do make the slimline three way set. With a good sound system my BMW aux improved but it's still no as good as the CD player with the same files. Although amping improves the base 676 the most the stock speakers are crap. You will improve the sound by and order of magnitude with good aftermarket speakers. Thanks for speakers recommendation. Did you get IFBMW-S or IFBMW-C ? Could you please provide a link where you got it from? Ctuna Thanks for the info, i have a few questions. 1) What would be a benefit of going thru DSP's aux vs using the car's aux? 2) On page 3 of provided document I do not see any info about dongle. Are you referring to cable remote control URC 2A? 3) If possible I would rather go thru optical input, but according to the documentation "In order to activate this input the optional cable remote control URC 2A is necessary". If I opted to use optical input what else would I need to connect my Iphone via cable or Bluetooth? I would think some sort of signal converter |

1)BMW aux is known to have a noise suppressing capacitor
which also degrades the sound . It has been discussed a lot by people who notice it. Hence the extensive discussions on bluetooth streaming adapters. 2)you would have to talk to helix about that. I know they have some sort of streaming adapter for some of there amps. 3)Yeah but do you have a device that ouputs the correct optical output to feed it. It wouldn't be your phone. Read this on what people have done to improve or avoid the BMW aux https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...hlight=airplay Last edited by ctuna; 04-12-2019 at 10:16 PM.. |

I bought the bavsound set (which includes speakers for both front and rear doors) to go along with the pp82dsp. Great upgrade! Their stuff is nicely plug-and-play, comes nicely packaged, and their customer support is tremendous. The quality provided for the price and simplicity it was a win.
Next is to do the underseats, but I can live with the stock underseats for now. With the e91 the mids are all the larger size (whereas e90 has smaller shelf mids) so I'd look for more bass response from those. |

Thanks to everyone for making suggestion on speaker sets. I have done some research and already know what speakers I should get. My question was more directed toward finding out if it makes sense to spend money to upgrade the speakers, having in mind that it might not be an improvement to sound quality since 90% of the time I play music using aux which has its limitations of sound quality it can pass to head unit.

I used the coaxial ones in a base audio sedan. I dont think theres any difference besides the tweeter mounting point.
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/foca...axial-speakers That said, I bought them at ~£190 a few years back. |

I had the Helix V8 DSP installed with the lossless bluetooth adapter and control box, stealthly mounted in the ashtray (see pic below) It uses the Bluetooth audio streaming codec aptX HD and the sound quality is amazing compared to standard BT streaming Only problem is finding devices that can playback in aptx HD format, I use a Samsung G5 for lossless streaming of spotify tracks, which is one of the few phones that have this capability... hopefully it will be a standard codec on phones going forward (unless you are a apple fanboi cause iphone dont support aptx hd in favor of some apple format) |

How about a simple aux to the dsp and the stock system connected to the other input. My system used the android headunit to the DSP via a USB DAC and toslink. However, the unit would glitch out a lot, so I only assigned USB audio to one music player with its own drivers and the rest to RCA fron the head unit. I'd switch the input using the DSP controller.
