Possible to turn the engine over without firing?

Is it possible to turn the engine over without it actually firing up, so that I can build oil pressure and get oil up the lines to the newly installed turbos...

1- If the engine has been drained prior to the repair remove the engine oil drain plug again to remove any residual oil that may have settled in the engine oil pan during the repair if the engine oil pan was not removed entirely.

2- Reinstall and torque the engine oil drain plug (with a new seal ring) per the applicable repair instruction.

3- Remove the oil filter housing cover and verify the oil filter is present. Reinstall the oil filter housing cover and torque it to the proper specification noted in the applicable repair instruction.

4- Fill the engine with the proper type and amount of engine oil, as specified in the applicable repair instruction.

5- Connect a battery charger to the vehicle.

6- Remove all fuel injector electrical connectors to disable fuel injection.

7- Crank the engine for 10 seconds.

8- After 10 seconds have elapsed, stop the starter, and allow the starter to cool for 20 seconds.

9- Repeat steps 7 and 8 two additional times.

10- Reinstall the fuel injector electrical connectors, reassemble the vehicle and verify proper engine operation.

11- After the engine has reached operating temperature, check the engine oil electronically or with the dipstick, and top up the engine oil as needed.

Where are the fuel injector electrical connectors? Nice and easy just sat on top of each injector right on top of the engine? I.e. Instantly accessible?

Thanks

You need to remove the intake manifold to remove injector connections. Why not prefill your turbos oil feed lines with oil.

-if you want to unplug the injectors then go to the DDE and unplug the connector closest to the motor. it should be the one with a bunch of twisted brown wires. its the injector harness.

-if you had the injectors out it will take a handful of cranking to get the air out of the line

-crank the motor and if it fires off shut it off after one second then wait about 10 seconds for the turbine to stop spinning and repeat

ok, i haven't taken the injectors out

the engine has not been started since October 2018, the car has been off the road whilst waiting for better weather and available time

but ive installed the new turbos and 3x manifold gaskets and want to make sure i don't fry my turbos instantly

Disconnect the fuel pump control module. It powers the low press fuel pump. On E90, remove the right rear seat bolster and it is mounted on the underlying structure. There is a connector going to the FP that is located under the "butt portion" of the rear seat. I f'd up the contacts on this connector one time and car wouldn't start. I replaced the female contacts and all was again fine. Hint: don't shove a wire into the female contacts especially a large gauge one. I have a picture of the message that came to NAV screen when i had f'd up the contacts and didn't know it. We've all had our days .....

EDIT: Found the picture. Now added in. The last picture is how you tear up the contacts. Durrgh

I bet you use this to bump the engine to different spots for walnut blasting.

You can use this method if you want faults and other issues to deal with. With a push start
The vehicle is off. No fuel pressure being built or any issues.

okay so its not literally a button, but a single connector that goes to all the diesel injectors?

i meant using the button that hooks up to the starter.. it would simply connect to the 12v main to the starter and the solenoid wire.. you press the button it completes the circuit and spins the starter without the electronics being involved..

the other easy method would be to disconnect the injector harness from the DDE then start the car like normal.

i've looked at my DDE by the ECU and i do not have the individual plugs, i have the big plug version (older type?) so i'm not sure i can separate off the injector harness and disconnect that?

looks to be just one big plug that sits on top of the ECU box

i have some small different coloured relays in front of that though, 1x bright blue one, 1x grey one and a couple of others?
