I WISH I could come. It'd be my first event, and I'd love it. But I have to work until 10 or 10:30 on Saturdays.
I looked into getting the day off, and it's a no-go. The Man is keeping me down with his Foot of O-pression. |

Interesting thought. Depends on how much output you get with Stage 1, of course. Shiv Pathak's Vishnu Stage 1 car put out 340 hp and 390 lbs-ft. at the rear wheels on a Dynojet vs. 276/299 from a stock 335i manual on the same unit. (The auto seems to lose a lot more power in the drivetrain, testing at 270/265 on that same dyno.)
The 2008 M3 engine is rated at 420 hp and 295 lbs.-ft., which should amount to about 340 hp and 240 lbs.-ft. at the rear wheels. Logically, the Stage 1 should eat the M3's lunch. But then there are dyno tests vs. the real world. If the M3 is lighter, geared lower and has a much higher-performance suspension, it might take the Stage 1, at least in the twisties. But with so much torque advantage coming on so much lower in the powerband on the Stage 1 335i, it's hard to imagine it wouldn't hold its own, at least, on a track. Fortunately, we can rest assured that someone will race these cars once the new M3 comes out. |
