6HP26 Mercon SP

for those of you who have searched far and wide for some definitive proof if mercon sp is safe in our cars with the ZF 6HP26, here’s my pan after 60K miles of running mercon sp. car now has 135k miles. I did a drain and fill with mercon sp last time and this time did the bridge seal and valve body seals as well as a full fluid exchange. Used 15 quarts of mercon sp to flush out all the old and fill with new. Car runs and shifts great!

Were you doing a simo drain and fill to try to dilute the fluid in the torque converter?
I’ve toyed with idea of disconnecting transcooler line coming from trans while doing a simo feed of fluid. I did this on another make and it worked quite well.

Yeah I did a total fluid exchange by drilling out my old pan at the pump feed tube and running a 3/4” outside diameter vinyl tube into the pump feed. Drilled a few holes through the pan to drain and filled that Home Depot bucket with 12 quarts of fluid and ran it through. So the pump was getting only fresh fluid while never seeing any mixed old / new fluid. Fluid started to change to new after about ~7 quarts based on height of fluid in the bucket. Setup worked great. It also worked for filling the new pan and topping off after warming, a lot easier then sliding under with a transfer pump.

I also use Merson SP for 80,000 km. 6hp-28 E60 525d St.3 330Hp. The transmission feels perfect.

DR. D, I'd love to see a close up how you force fed the pump inlet. When you say pump inlet, I think of the outlet of the fluid filter where it plugs into bottom of valve body. My understanding could be all "wonky" though. thanks

Good stuff. Mercon SP is on my list for when it's time to do the tranny service.
