Your battery can also cause these warnings!! I had a loose battery terminal. Not saying this is your case but a weak or faulty battery will
Cause this error message

You have an SZL module problem. Will cost $1300 if you car is out of warranty.

$500 for module
$400 labor
$400 to reprogram the car

Get this fixed ASAP, you car thinks you are in a roll-over and could disconnect your battery and kill your engine while driving.

Ouch didn't know the sensor/module was that much. Perhaps a DIY with programming by an independent shop? What's the part number on the module?

Looks like you are looking for one of these modules: http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...41&hg=61&fg=35

~$400 from Tischer.

Thanks guys seems like you have it on the money!

Went to the dealer and three of the codes read something with the battery and one of them seeming to be the steering sensor. Makes sense since and indicators dont automatically turn off and i noticed that the adaptive headlamps arent responsive either. I didnt its stupid/dangerous that it disables the dsc module. At least it was the module itself or else its another ~1000 part

I really appreciate your help guys

Wait ET90,
I had the exact problems. First, have you replaced or swapped out the steering wheel recently? If so, have you changed, moved, or adjusted the steering wheel's clock spring? (It’s the item between the steering wheel and turn signal unit [which houses the SZL (steering wheel angle sensor)].

The clue for the SZL may have gone bad (as stateed before) is the turn signal stalk not automatically turning off when turning right.. If so, this unit is expensive and time consuming process. The amount Syndicategt mentions is correct. But the dealership also may include a front wheel alignment ($150-$300). This must be done first before reprogramming. Unfortunately, there’s NO way around this procedure.

Or if you had changed or installed the clock spring recently, then it may be misaligned or installed incorrectly. This was my issue when I installed my Performance Electronic steering wheel (it uses a different clock spring). $125 dealership charge, the problem was solved and all warning restored back to normal.

The car does not need to be aligned to replace this sensor and my turn signals still functioned as they were suposed to when my steering angle sensor failed on my 09.

so turns out it wasn't the the steering sensor. since i installed my exhaust system the light has never came back. I believe it had something to do with my front two wheel take full weight of the car. Anyone can think of a reason on what could've happened?

My DBS, DSC, and brake lights went away for a month or 2 then came back before I had the SZL replaced.

Just reset my steering angle sensor today after BMW Perf Electric Wheel install. All same errors. Just a quick reset so the car knows when the wheel is centered. If you HAVENT changed your wheel and you're getting the errors, unfortunately it will come back and here's why...

Inside the clock spring is an infared sensor with an eye like the reader on a CD player. The reason yours is going on and off is because there is dirt on it. There is a DIY on here called something like "My $.02 Steering angle sensor fix" that shows you how to take it apart clean it and put it back to fix your issue.

Any new info on this problem?

Just bought my '08 335XI (56k miles) and during the 2000 mile drive home I had this problem. I was able to get the warning to go away by turning the steering wheel lock to lock but this is going to get old. I called the local BMW service and they said it will be $100 for diagnosis, another $100 is it's just a programming issue or another $700 to $1000 if they have to replace the steering column.

I don't think it's a battery issue because it goes away when I turn the steering wheel lock to lock.

I might try the "My $.02 Steering angle sensor fix" but if that doesn't work then what? If I can get the codes read and it turns out being the SZL, am I able to replace that my self or do I have to have BMW do it?

I had the same problem, .02 cent fix worked for me. I just took everything apart and cleaned the laser and disc, used bt tool to reprogram sensor and problem gone.
Look it up ($0.02 cent Fix)

I cleaned both of the rear sensors...problem solved. Be careful when pulling them out and just use soapy water to clean.

I had a very very similar message recently and it turned out to be a wheel bearing sensor which threw a bunch of codes relating to dsc.

Sounds to me like it could be anything
