Rubbing Sound Turning Right At Slow Speed

Hi!

My ‘07 328xi wagon (172,xxx) is making a rubbing sound when turning right at slow speed right when getting moving for the first time. After it warms up/a mile, it goes away. No vibrations noted. The shocks in the rear are about a year old. The fronts are probably stock. I can’t imagine it’s sinking that far over to the left on a right turn to cause the tire to rub. Also, I’m not fat.

Is the diff or axle going bad? It’s been roughly two years since the last diff fluid change. I did some research and some say that could be the culprit due to friction fluid things or something. Apparently, there’s an additive that causes the noise to go away. I don’t know. I’m only a shade tree mechanic.

Just thought I’d ask here. Any input is appreciated. Thanks very much!

the tire should never rub, even with a completely failed strut.

I'd strongly suspect a wheel bearing beginning to fail. Probably a left side one, as that's what gets loaded more when you turn right. I've also had brakes make a noise on slow speed turns.

only way to know is to get it into the air and start inspecting hubs/brakes/shafts.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll get it up in the air and take a peek.
