you'll want to use OBD for that, it's the simplest way. I'm not sure what products allow you to read and write yourself, most of the big tuners will sell you a black box that you can't do anything with. OFT might but it might also be encrypted.

another issue is checksums but I should be able to figure that out pretty easily.

pretty sure the 325i file I have is a 3l. eventually I'll get a full dump off our 325xi.

There was this thread on N54tuning which I can no longer find where in a similar way to the OFT you can download the maps via ODB2 and change things as you wish, it was under the name Tune for free or something along those line.

I guess the OFT guys made sure it is buried or deleted.

I believe there was a OBD to USB cable involved and the same programs you mentioned above.

Also you mentioned the need to change the check-sums in order for changes to be implemented, do you have access to these once you open the dump files?

Thx Hass

low load is basically the same but part load and full load are completely different. at first I thought the 325i was more aggressive but now that I see it, it basically peaks out at about 80% load. I guess partly to make up for the lack of the 3 stage manifold?

this is really just scratching the surface though. this will take months of effort to figure out, I don't even know what the effects of this map and many others truly are.

I have to stop for today but I'll post more as I find it.

oh yeah, the left axis is rf (relative filling) and the top axis is of course RPM. the units are in mm.
Max lift on the 325i is also at the 9.7mm? (if I'm reading the correctly)

yes but it doesn't go full lift until much later in the RPM curve. look at 100 rf at 2000rpm, 330i is at 9.7mm while 325i is only 5.8.. that's a huge difference. I'm guessing the 330i can go to full lift earlier because of better filling from the 3 stage intake?

^ yeah it looks that way, you get way more power across the rev range with the extra depth in most cells

Hmm, I thought I really the 325i dropped the lift my a significant amount near 6300rpm?Looking forward to what tou find.

I think thats the rev limiter. Its a "soft" limiter that i think pulls timing, fuel, and i belive vanos. I think that could be tweaked, i much prefer a hard ful cut.. lol

haha me too
on N/A its not bad but if you mess up a fuel cut style limiter on a turbo car it could go boom

The 325i closes the throttle a bit at high rpm. Cheap way of limiting power to keep off the 330i's toes.

I think you could do it if you can disable the spark cut, there's a threshold for RPM above the rev limit for a hard fuel cut. Just set that to zero, perhaps.

I was just about to mention this. You can actually hit the hard cut in neutral or first gear. The soft limiter is too slow.

It looks like the Vishnu OTS tune does indeed modify valve lift

it's encrypted so I don't know how you can tell.

also, unfortunately since it's encrypted it means you can't use OFT to flash custom tunes. it really is sort of worthless..

Im not sure what you mean? I can load any .bin file to it and flash it...
As far as the .bin itself, it doesn't appear to be any kind of encrypted. I can view it in TunerPro without a problem.

And I can tell you that my Valve Lift map is indeed modified.

How would it be stealing, you're not paying for the tunes, you're paying for the hardware.
