I'm surprised at the SLS comments.

I'd have one over the m6. Luxury supercar, something engineered at the top of its game, engineers pushed and boundaries pushed.

That sometimes comes with super car type issues. But I like things to be the best they can be. If not why try at all.

Range rovers are also driven by chavs and footballers but they are bloody nice cars.

I disagree, I think the SLS is quite mainstream. It shares pretty much the same engine with a saloon that is £100k cheaper and they are not uncommon around London. I much prefer its predecessor the SLR.

It's a lard ass too and it looks it. Attracts attention driving around Knightsbridge no doubt though.

Not saying it is not a nice car, but it's price tag is a bit steep for what it is.

The comparison isn't SLS or SLR. The M6 uses the same engine as the M5 and X5M. But a Gull winged all alloy hand built Merc has bags of appeal IMO.

Quite like the M6....interior is particularly nice.

I know, but the M6 is about half the price, so is hardly a comparison on a "Super car" basis anyway. If you're a pop star the SLS is a lovely car. I was comparing it to the many other cars in its price bracket, which there are plenty and I just don't think it is that special. I loved the gull wing doors but the rest of the styling just isn't that great, and it's not that limited for a £175k car.

I think hate is a strong word for the SLS, it's just a bit meh in supercar terms IMO. Put it this way, there are many many other cars I'd purchase at 6 figures before even considering an SLS. I'd take an Aston V12 Vantage or DBS for instance any day of the week and twice on Sundays. In fact given your love of fast GT's I'm surprised you haven't considered one of these Palmnuts (you may have already had one and I've missed it )

As for the M6 forget the remap IMO, it's plenty quick enough, the only thing I would consider is a decent exhaust system to liberate some more of that sound.

First things first, Congrats on the new car and hope it lasts longer than 6 months

To say the SLS is not a super car is just daft and I'm sure everyone on this forum would love to say they owned one. I do agree it's not my first choice of car in that price range. I would buy/rent the 458 or DBS as others have mentioned (a little more in your face than a SLS) not sure how folk would react to you pulling up to the office in either of the above cars lol

I also think you would be nuts to get the car mapped. getting BMW to take the limiter of is the way to go. Can this not be done on one of your many trips to Germany, its like a second home, just need to remind yourself not to take the M6 to the AMG workshop .

Oxford dealer = A34, A40 junction??

Hi Andrew, yes I was at Evolve and sat behind you in your last M6! What a squeeze that was, not least as I hit my head on the roof each time you went over a crest! Was an amazing ride nonetheless!

Finally, some love for the SLS!! Despite this coming at the expense of M6-love....come on chaps, keep a balance

And for those who say an SLS is ordinary or mainstream.....no, just no! Well, not when you live in the real world outside of London!

Sportplus - yes, thats the dealer. Now need to find one to take the limiter off as I don't believe BMW have an equivalent of the AMG design studio (otherwise it'd have been booked in already!)

I couldn't use it as a daily drive for a variety of reasons. Choice was to buy something else and keep it for weekends or get rid and have something I can use everyday. I chose the latter.

Mmmm....not overly delighted this weekend.

M6 has had a steering wheel wobble since I've had it - nothing major, just the feeling of out-of-balance front wheels when doing 90+. It's slight, but obvious.

Now, I know how hard it is to get big wheels correctly balanced as it took numerous attempts after having new tyres on the SLS - in the end the Mercedes dealer had to use Tyres Northampton with their special Hunter Roadforce balancing machine to successfully get that cars steering wheel to stop shaking.

So, I took the M6 to them to have the same thing done. That Roadforce balancing machine looks a good piece of kit - they were showing me everything it does and, in addition to normal balancing, it adds a rolling surface to the tyre as it spins, mimicking the pressure it would have when driving on the road. It also tells the fitter if the wheels and tyres are straight (or more accurately, round) and it also tells them how to fit the tyre on the wheel so it's correctly weighted, meaning less reliance on the stick-on weights. Sometimes you'll see a sticky dot on a tyre sidewall - these highlight the heavy point of the tyre (which I'm told should sit next to the heavy point of wheel where the valve is) however, when the dots are removed as is often the case, the only way to tell the heavy point of a tyre is to use one of these machines.

Anyway, my wheels/tyres passed all the roundness tests and one of tyres had to be rotated about 90 degrees for it to sit at it's optimal position before they balanced them up. After seeing all this technology in action, and the success of having it used with my SLS, I was hopeful.

But....well, you know where this is going don't you Yep, it's pretty much still the same Now, I did rush them somewhat as I had to be somewhere (this type of balancing takes ages - about half an hour per wheel!) so I'm going to give them another shot at it next weekend. I don't really know what else it can be as it's so characteristic of a slightly out of balance wheel and I'm pretty sure no BMW dealer are going to be able to do anything different.

I don't have much luck with big wheels - as I said, I went through this with the SLS and the Maserati before. What these cars all have in common is 20" wheels. Saying this, no such issues in the Jag's, all of which also had 20's. Reading the forums, it seems the F30 3-series is suffering these wheel vibration problems, with no official fix for it even after having the wheels balanced in the same way as described above. I hope the M6 doesn't follow suit!

The day tyre depots stopped offering on car balancing, was a sad one IMO.Did you get the rear checked? I've had cars where the rears have caused the steering to wobble.

When I fitted tyres. The red DOT was always put opposite the valve. To counteract the valves extra weight.

Sorry, you are right - you obviously put the heaviest part of the tyre against the lightest part of the wheel!

I was struggling for time so only did the front, with one of them definitely rushed so there is hopefully room for improvement.
