Is the turbo on its way out? [Video included]

Hi All,

So if you've not seen some of my threads before I'm on a mission to get back some MPG as mine is terrible! I've changed air filter, crankcase breather, removed EGR and Intake Manifold and deleted swirl flaps only to still get around 21MPG.

I appear to have lost some oil (around 1 litre within 2500 miles) I assumed this may have been due to the gasket sealant used to cover a crack in the engine sump giving way but while looking underneath the car it seems there's oil over the turbo, turbo boost pipe and just above the turbo pipe there's a black pipe which appears to have fresh oil.. I'm not sure whether this pipe is leaking oil onto the boost pipe and turbo or whether it's all to do with the turbo and the seals are going.. what do you think?

Leave it ticking over for 20 minutes and see if blue smoke starts coming out the exhaust. One sign for the seals going

To be honest mate it never smokes that bad, I did this a few days ago after a journey:

I also booted it and my friend recorded but it was just black smoke.

That's said.. for all I know the leak may have occurred after I did that check. I'll have to have a check tomorrow

In the process of changing both thermostats and had a chance to look at the Turbo and the pipe which appeared to have lost of the oil on.. it's actually a pipe going to the main thermostat so I doubt the leak is coming from there.. I'll have a better look tomorrow but how does the turbo look? It moves slightly to the left and right but it doesn't move inwards.

Turbo looks fine to me. Looks more like you've had or got a leak somewhere else.

Yeah, well my oil levels where a absolutely fine.. I used to check every week/fortnight as I had gasket sealant used to patch the sump. Then after cleaning the intake manifold I checked again and noticed I lost like 1 litre of oil but never seen anything on my drive.. the only thing that I can think that would make sense at the moment is if when I had the Turbo inspected that they removed the oil feed maybe and lost oil?

Tomorrow I'll be taking more off and will have a good clean and look around to see if I can see anything that looks fresh with oil..

Glad to hear the turbo looks okay as well! I was preparing for the seals or something to have been causing the oil haha.
