N55 JB4 Tune Idea
So just throwing this out there. my catless n55 is loud enough to set off car alarms on cold start, however if I hold it at about 1200 RPM, it is much quieter, at almost a reasonable level. How about a feature that holds RPM to that level until it warms up? Thoughts?

Nope I feel the same as you do. The cold start on the n55 is LOUD especially with a catless downpipe. The only solution I feel is that BMW can offer a software update to quiet down the cold start.

Well, or a piggyback unit like vishnu or BMS could do it. I doubt BMW cares too much about people running catless.. their official response would be like "ein ha ha ha mit ha ha ha mit scheisse"

You know what, I am bumping this. The cold start on my car is almost as loud as WOT. I would love to get a more aggressive exhaust, even a race setup, but the cold start would be obnoxious to neighbors and deafening.
It's avoidable if you give it a slight bit of throttle for about 20 seconds and try to hold it at a steady low rpm, but what a hassle. For JB4 owners, I think Terry should program a "quiet cold-start" option where JB4 sets idle to ~1200 rpm for the first 20 seconds of a cold start. I believe this would eliminate the disproportionately loud start-up that catless N55 owners have been dealing with. I think this would a great value-added feature also. Feedback from catless N55 owners?

*sigh. I can't EVER leave the house w/o my wife knowing. Even in a deep slumber she wakes when I start the car in the garage... and we live in a large home... and she is on the other side of the house, the farthest away you could be. It's loud on a cold start up for sure!!

Its universal, stock its loud, with a DP its even louder and even more with golf tee mod.
I use the slight steady throttle to ~1000-1200 RPM on cold start when I want it quiet, you get use to it. |

I live in a cul-da-sac..the house next to me has a Maserati GranTurismo, the house next to them has a Shelby Cobra, and the house next to them has a Ferrari F430..so you can imagine, fuck my neighbors. I wish I was exponentially louder..I might trade my exhaust for an Eisenmann Race and maybe then it'll be loud enough

Yes, a tune feature that did this automatically would eliminate super loud cold start for those of us which find it obnoxious.

I'm in....even though I don't have a catless DP, I have a muffler delete and it's still loud at cold start. I'm sure my neighbors hate me every Mon and Wed when I start up my car at 6 A.M.

Assuming the N55 is similar to the S65, this is part of the start up cycle to get the cats warmed up quickly (whether you have cats or not, the BMW cycle works as if you have them [unless you tune/modify the software])
on the S65, it's easy to turn off this feature with a flash tune. We don't have piggybacks so I cannot comment if it's possible on a piggyback Not a bad idea though.
