GFB DV+ installation

Has anyone tried accessing the diverter valve from the top by removing the inlet and turbo side charge pipe?

I really wanna avoid going from the bottom because I have an XI (requires dropping front subframe).

What would be the best way to take out the diverter valve on an XI?

Also, are there any known downsides of doing this mod on a stock turbo?

I installed it in an almost stock turbo. Just has a more aggressive compressor wheel like the stage 1s. Sport spring included.
Haven't noticed any negative effects at all.

Yes - it is entirely possible to install the GFB DV+ from the top - I did it. Removing the turbo inlet will allow removal of the top two of three allen-head bolts. I had to get creative and eventually used a standard hex key with a very small box-end wrench on it. The bottom one will require unbolting but not removing or draining the water pump (three bolts). You can then go in with a long extension from the front to remove the last bolt. No downsides on my stock turbo - just the opposite. Holds boost better and is more responsive than factory valve. I installed with the spring. No difference in sound. Hope this helps!

It's nice to know it can be done without draining coolant. Thanks.

FYI - you will need to remove the radiator fan also (not hard at all).
