any moded n52 owners jumped to turbo bmw?

sup e90p! so i test drove a 2008 335i n54 6MT yesterday, it was bone stock. Interior and exterior is pretty clean for car its age. no Idrive. It had no CEL and it did have service records but after going through it ive noticed all the major stuff like water pump, oil pan gasket and vcg hasnt been done . also its been diagnosed with a bad ccv system.

among other issues the road noise from the tires make it sound like theres bad wheel bearing so tires would have to be replaced, brakes and front bushings as the front end seems to wander. so it will need quite bit of work. other than that its pretty clean. they want $7gs for it. should i offer $5g?

I have a 2006 325i with 3im, 3.73 diff, aa headers, secondary cat delete and bimmer labs 330i tune.

I can definitely feel the torque from the turbos especially in 3rd gear in lower rpms but it didnt feel that much faster than my modded n52. I feel that MILV and bcp tune should get my car as fast or a little faster than a stock 335i.

Which leads me to reaching out to the e90 community, has anybody here had a modded n52 and replaced it with a turbo bmw and have any regrets?

I'd never get rid of an N52-powered E9X. Get the ragged out 335i for a toy/project and keep the N52 as your reliable DD.

My 2 cents.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

How old are those turbos? Old turbos, new turbos, night and day.

bad ccv? Need to be careful if that is what the owner is telling you. If the car is burning oil you are looking at a possible misdiagnosis, and maybe bad turbo seals. Hard to tell without being around the car for long.

I just have to say - if an N54-powered vehicle did not seem much faster to you than an N52 powered one, then there is something wrong with it or with you. And of course, a few dollars makes the N54 a rocket. You cannot do that with a normally aspirated engine.

That said, Efthreeoh is correct about reliability. If you buy a junker 335, you're in for a world of pain. Even a non-junker will hurt at times.
