Picked up a pair of these with the PRISM black lenses and work like a champ in the M850i with no downsides to not being polarized.

Have a 2018 and 2019 X5, HUD does not work with my polarized Maui Jim sunglasses on either. Did they change the HUD tech?

Not in my experience. Neither works with polarized sun glasses

It depends on the orientation of the filter.

Prism is a mixture lense. The problem with polarized lenses is there is distortion because glare is a natural occurrence. Glare sucks no doubt- but removing it changes your visual perception.

Add in contact lenses that also slightly distort vision and it’s a challenge.

I used to think polarized was the best Avenue- in slightly darker settings- you need a little glare to read reflective surfaces. So not a bad move…

Yea I think I doubt they will go to only HUD and no screen in the very near future. Maybe. Someday.

Someday it may be all HUD and subscription-based. No pay no HUD.

No issues with Gucci glasses for iDrive 7 HUD, as I have a different pair in each of my F95 and G83. Previous Tom Ford polarized glasses were a HUD issue for iDrive 6 HUD, as these are now in my domestic travel bag when I have a rental car in the US. Oakley prisms I’ll only wear as track glasses, especially when doing a BMW Ice training course.

I’m worried about the glare when the convertible top is down with the upcoming wide windshield HUD.

Girl, the more and more I look at this, the more I say to myself: “damn, G20 pre-LCI was beautiful for a 2019 car. ” I mean it’s true! This looks so…. 🤢

Non-polarized

I'm a little surprised to see BMW owners complaining about having to get non-polarized sunglasses. I agree with one poster here that I don't want to wear cheap sunglasses in my Bimmer. I'm certainly not rich but when I get a new prescription I spring for two pairs of prescription Oakley sunglasses... one polarized and one non-polarized that I keep in the car. Gives me more choice of what to wear at any time anyway. Plus I can have the driving-oriented tint on the pair in the car (kind of a reddish with purple? and not super-dark) and and the ice-blue polarized for water sports and such. Polarized not working with the HUD is not unique to BMW so it seems odd to criticize them for that. Just my two cents.

Have f25, f80 and f85. All polarized glasses work on all vehicles. One lense blocks more of the HUD than the other, but still plenty of brightness to see the HUD. Any of those saying it doesn’t work attempt to adjust the location or brightness?

Yes on the brightness. Now that I know the angle matters, I will play with location. Good idea.

Definitely helps but no matter what I tried including brightness on max, angles, etc. When driving into the sun with the polarized Oakley's I couldn't see the HUD in my M850i. When not driving into the sun it worked okay. However, I live in the Phoenix area and sun is a fact of life.

I'd just be happy if they put more focus on not making their cars so damn ugly. Then I may actually want to buy a new one.

Unfortunately, I can't get by the exterior big snouts and buck teeth to even begin to consider the interior of their cars. Such a bummer...

The 8 series is still pretty conservative on the front end. You could drive one of those.

The 8-series is golden. A rare breed on the road, stunning looks even for the GC (no offense to my GC brethren) and a parking lot conversation magnet (back to the rarity on the road and most people still don't know they exist).

Rumor being they're dead with the 7 year 2025 MY outside of the GC. Other rumor being BMW is planning a mash up of the 6 and 8 for the coupe/convertible market. I'm not buying that as the large coupe market overall is soft so expecting BMW to shit can them all together. Bought out the lease on my 2020 M850i and plan to pick up a 2024 or 2025 before they go DOA.

I actually really like the GC. If I wanted a 6 figure vehicle, that’s probably my pick. Definitely over the 7 (no offense to the 7, it’s a sweet ride).

I read one place they may rebrand the 8 GC underneath the 7 series lineup somehow. I also though I’d read they are bringing the 6 series back in place of the 8 AND the 4. So it will just be one line. I’m pretty intrigued by the idea.

I drive a 5. The 4 is too small and not really the luxury finishes I enjoy and the 8 is just too rich for my blood (30’s with two kids just starting private school, it’ll do a number on the cash flow). All that to say, I’d definitely be open to a GC bigger than the 4 and maybe priced closer to the 5 with a fun powertrain and ride. I guess we will see what happens.

It's grown on me to the point I too like it but I want a coupe GT now that I'm an empty nester.

Forgot about that 4 and 8 series rumor with a new 6 series mashup. Intrigued as well but placing my bet on one of the last 8 series coupes with the glorious V8. The inevitable mashup may likely be capped with a TT V6.

You're doing all the right things. Family first over luxury items such as an overpriced 8-series. I waited 30+ years for what became my 2020 coupe custom ordered to my specs. Prior to that I drove Lexus' GS equivalent to the 5 series as they lasted forever with proper maintenance. In fact the GS 430 I had was 13 years old when I bought the M850i. Gave it to my son who's still driving it around San Diego as it's got another 80K easy on it.

I have two Oakley sunglasses one has polarized lenses. The other one is for road biking, and they specifically do NOT polarize it because you don’t want to miss glare - water reflections on pavement - my polarized glasses filter out the HUD totally .. unless I tilt my head sideways… 😜

Prizm road lenses work great
