Thanks guys! In any case - I should be fine if I keep accessory usage to a minimum and won't use anything when engine is shut off. I'm going to try it and I'll post back if I encounter any issues

I own a 2008 BMW 135i. I was looking at the Braille 21 pound battery to replace my 50+ pound OEM one. After reading through various posts and what people have gone through, I decided it would be best to go with a battery that wouldn't die on me but would still shave off some weight. My search brought me to a reasonably priced battery ($129.99) with 2 year warranty available at Autozone. The Duralast H6-DL battery. Their website claims the specs are as follows; Weight 35.91 lbs, 615 CCA, 765 CA, 95 Reserve Minutes, Group Size 48. When I got home I put it on a scale. To my surprise, it was even lighter than expected at 34.4 pounds. I'll install it soon and update the post in a few weeks for any other enthusiasts looking for info.

I wonder if anyone has fitted a super-capacitor as a battery for these cars.

I know folks on youtube with simpler cars (camery etc) have been successful.

I could see myself using that on track days. Might have to leave the car in transport mode to reduce vampire draw for when the car is off.

Replaced my battery with a 30 lb AGM from the BMW i8 and coded it using Protool. Works perfect on my E93.

Haven't seen anyone install or try these yet, but it seems to be mentioned a lot by people using them around the Nurburgring.

Anyone want to try this?

The BMW i8 battery is 30 lbs and works great on my E93 335is.

I raised this issue with the developers of Pro Tool. They said use the next highest available setting (60Ah).

Apparently this is the same way dealers do the coding (choose the next highest available setting).

LifePo4 12.8v battery maybe possible as a light weight option.

Currently working in my 335i, still testing.

I bought an Antigravity H6-60-RS battery. Just installed it with the bluetooth battery monitor and all is great so far!

Just an update. Car has been running well since.
No issues. Seems like you can run light weight lithium batteries in these cars after all.

Hi e30h26,
You should be able to use any LifePO4 battery in 335i as long as the charging voltage stays at 14v and below. These batteries have over voltage/current protect circuitry and if the voltage on the battery exceeds 14.6v the battery will disconnect from the car while its running which is a big no no as you know. The voltage on car side will spike up to 18v as the alternator needs the battery to regulate correctly.
This is the reason why I needed to disconnect the alternator ignition signal. I didn't expect the alternator to work in this case but it seemed to run in some sort of default mode. I also have the alternator from the 135i as my engine was changed from one.
It doesnt have the Bit Serial Interface that the 335i alternator has, so im not 100% sure you will get the same result.
Maybe monitor the battery voltage in normal mode and see how it charges. The DME will alter voltage depending on demands from different system in the car. Then disconnect the the plug on the alternator and see what happens.
In default mode its like the older cars where the alternator targets 14v regulation only.

Any way, I installed this battery.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3301...7ecb6271bogjtE

Not sure if still available, brought 15 months ago.

Paid $450 AUD+tax delivered. Uses A123 system cells but rating is really 42ah.
I did notice engine kicks over faster and starts quicker.

I would recommend you source battery locally for warranty reasons. Just make sure you have 900CCA with 40ah lithium capacity. Many companies use Pb equivalent ratings. Make sure you know what cells are in the battery and use them as the capacity rating.

Hope this helps.
