Interesting you just posted this. For the past 4-6 weeks I've had a similar problem – nothing extreme like the dash appearing to shake – with my 2011 335d. My 335d has 77,625 miles, I bought it with 54k on the odometer. It has been idling rough at stop signs (I can feel the miss with my foot on the brake, and the tach momentarily dips 100-200 RPM) as if it’s missing. I purposely bought a CPO 335d because I researched the crap out of this car and wanted to avoid the huge cost of having a problem with CBU. I’ve been waiting for the Service Engine Soon (SES) light to come on so I could take this to the dealer for CPO warranty work.
I took my car in yesterday and found out today that they are performing service for CBU, and replacing several other things as well.

ive began to notice an increase in the idle (getting rougher) on cold starts which seems to rattle the dash a bit (im aware I have carbon build up probably contributing to this)

now my car isnt throwing any ses light or fault codes

ive noticed this morning the idle roughness almost seemed to be swaying left to right this morning

if I take it to the dealer, is there anything they can do without the lights being thrown or would they not be able to see anything?

thanks

What codes do they look for to validate a CBU procedure?
I'm sure there are "ways" to accelerate that

The SIB - posted here so search for it - describes the conditions for diagnosis.

I am well out of warranty or emissions, but I was thinking for people who rightfully should get a cleaning under warranty for the 335d horrid egr levels causing clogging. My x5 35d wasn't too bad, but why not give a lp egr for the 335d? It was cost savings I bet and honestly they should pay for it. Lifetime to these companies means 100k. What? You would think a german luxury car could last longer, but these days they stopped selling reliability, lol.

3FF1 air mass sensor (makes sense, clogging restricts airflow)
Easy to do, put a 1 inch long piece of electrical tape on the middle screen in front of the maf. You will get limp mode if you drive hard. Then take it off when you bring it in to show the code.
--I found this out when I was trying mods to eliminate egr by fooling the maf.

4595 rough controller Cylinder 6
459B rough controller Cylinder 5
4592 rough controller Cylinder 4
4596 rough controller Cylinder 3
4593 rough controller Cylinder 2
459C rough controller Cylinder 1

Those I am not sure about.
Maybe crack an injector feed line and let it leak to make that piston misfire?
Not sure if the same can be done cleanly by making the electrical connector loose for the injector.

Can anyone tell me if you have to clean injectors as part of a regular carbon cleaning on these engines?

Indy shop is trying to tell me that carbon cleaning will cost me $2,500 because injectors also have to be removed and sent out for cleaning?

If you've got bad injectors cleaning them won't help. They're either good, dead or about to die. If you've got an X5, you need to look into the raintray update, leading cause of dead injectors is water leaking down on top of them. Usually 5/6

this is SOOOO over looked... I replaced 3 injectors before realizing my rain treys were fucked. I even sealed the rain trey edges up with rubber for a tighter seal.
