Regarding tire pressures--I recently replaced my tires and consulted with a tire guru at the BMW Performance Center before I pulled the trigger. We discussed, among other things, widths, pressures, over/under steer. I questioned why, since the car has a 50/50 weight distribution, BMW would specify higher pressures in the rear. He smiled as if I'd just opened up his favorite subject. He agreed that all four tires on this car should have the same pressure for optimum handling. He thinks the lawyers want to ensure that if a BMW leaves the road and crashes, it does so going forward and not backward.

Having lower pressure up front increases understeer tendencies. He suggested that I run 36 psi all around.
Regarding front and rear tire pressures....you are exactly right. From my prior years in high performance drivers schools and now as a coach for street survival, the safest way to survive a crash (if avoidance is not possible) is to stuff the front into the hard solid object. The front has the most crumple zones and airbag systems are all designed to work with a frontal impact. In addition, the human neck is most flexible front to back compared to side to side. Another reason to have a longitudinal crash rather than a latitudinal crash.

As for detailing...back in my hs and college days I really geeked out over it, I use to work at a detail shop. Now at 40 years old I don't have near the time to detail like I use to but I always keep the car clean.

Sunday I ran all new wiring and speakers for a fully active audio setup. Didn't get a chance to finish it, but my system consists of a match 82dsp with the MBQUART qm200.3 system. Yes I know the MBQUART's are not what they used to be, but I figured I'd take the initial hit and see if an active setup with these would suffice. I'm sure it will be night and day over the base stereo system

It is, I have the MB Quartz with tweeters and they have been pretty good for what they cost. I didn't get a processor for them though, but my amp has a high and low frequency filter so I can separate them.

Sweet

I'm hopeful that with a dsp and running active, the outcome should be enough. Plus I'm planning on using Room Eq Wizard to get a good tune with the dsp, doing both Eq'ing and time alignment. If that doesn't do the trick, then I'll look into the jehnert's. Seeing as I just 'finally' sold my Ducati, I now have some money to play with.

Just picked up my first 335d, then promptly drove it across Canada back home. Great way to break in a 'new to me' car.

Was thinking of trading her up then was convinced by the voices of reason (if you can call them that - Greek/VR6/torque) to keep her. Pampered her with a nice wash to get that layer of pollen and dust off.

1000cc back to 750cc.

Seemed the 1k was a little overkill with my build... The 750cc feels just right!

Same poke, less smoke.

Detailed the car. Used some Sonax wheel cleaner on my wheels and "spare". This stuff works incredible at releasing brake dust, even helped release on the barrels that haven't ever been cleaned. Also got some factory BMW sunshades for my kid so the sun doesn't blind him so badly in the mornings/evenings.

Got some Graphite / Gunmetal Plasti-Dip to test out on my tireless spare before I do all the wheels. I aligned the spare up with the mounted wheel so you can barely see it sitting behind. Used my kid's lego box lid to support it haha. I figure this will hold me over until I can find a nice set of 219M wheels!

Glow plug control unit and glow plugs replaced today.

Was impressed to see very minimal carbon coating in the intake ports and manifold.

78,000 kms or so on the car and the last 14,000 of them with the deletes.

If anything down the line, I'd say a meth kit install just to ensure long term cleanliness and keeping CBU away for good.

It's like a running joke here amongst my friends. My commute to work is a very short one as well and often times I drive my company vehicle around.

Stupid question, but how couldn't they measure torque? With a diesel they'll need to calibrate rpm manually before the run (Which isn't very hard for most shops) as there is no plug wire to grab rpm from..
