Slight burning smell?

Hi guys,

I've got the E93 DCT M3. Recently I've noticed that after I've driven the car for at least 10-20 mins (only slightly aggressive acceleration - nothing out of the ordinary), when I've parked up and step outside of the car I notice a slight burning smell.

I don't seem to remember it before. I was thinking maybe it's something to do with the brakes?

Anyway I'd like to find out what your thoughts are and whether anyone has experienced the same issue? What could it be? I hope there's not a serious underlying problem!

Thanks.

I concur. Your car needs longer than that to get up to optimal temps to smash about, UK7 style

Could be many things - how new is the car? If it's brand new, with very few miles, it could be the exhaust settling in. Otherwise, it could be the brakes, but you'd have to be hammering them hard to get them to start smelling like they're burning. More likely is that there is something 'foreign' stuck to the exhaust pipes which is causing the smell - I discovered a plastic bag wrapped round the exhaust pipe on my car, which had melted on and gave off a burning smell everytime I drove

I don't really wrag it - just slight acceleration up to 3/4k rpm in D/Auto mode... only rag it when the oil temp is 100 degrees etc...
