For me it's the flip side. My commute was my short trip that would have made sense for an electric. So now it's pleasure cruising (for which I have 3 motorcycles), running Saturday errands (do EVERYTHING on sat so rack up miles) or road trips (especially now since flying is more complicated).

It's made me less interested in electric

I'm replacing my E91 with an E92. Only BMW for me but I don't like the Fxx series and I really couldn't justify the price of a Gxx series.

I replaced my E93 with a Lexus IS 350. Pros - I get to spend my weekends doing things other than wrenching on the BMW, reliability, quiet and smooth. Cons - the Lexus is slower and has no soul whatsoever.

Hoping to replace the Lexus with a C63 in the next year or so.

I'll probably keep my e93 until it explodes. Its paid off and insurance isn't too bad. In a perfect world, I'd have a 4th gen 4runner, e92 M3 and finally have my project 92 Subaru SVX finished.

another E90 LOL! I want another sedan because im getting apex arc 8s and dont know what to do with my BBS style 197s. They are wrapped in $900 Michelin pilot sports thats been used only for a year so I want a 325i sedan sport pkg to put it on. A silver e90 with sport pkg pre lci would be super sick. Found a grey one and test drove it the other day. Had a short shift kit but saw OFHG and VCG leaking like crazy, plus he went to some weird place that doesnt use BMW oil for oil change, like valvoline. And felt vibrating in the steeringwheel

I acquired my 330i as a winter beater for commuting. I never expect it to be a fun car. But it has exceeded my expectation as a sedan. Now that I am working from home in the foreseeable future, I no longer really worried about winter driving. Besides there's also the family X1.

I have been toying with the idea of swapping its parking space for maybe a Z4 or Miata. Hard to let go of a very good car though. My kids have taken a liking to it too.

Was. The car ran great, but it seemed like every other week something was wrong it. I'm no mechanic, which explains my online residency here, but I did what I could with it but most everything else was handled at the shop.

In all fairness, a lot of my time spent with it was paint correction, painting calipers, painting wheels, vinyl wrap and other cosmetic stuff. Once the cosmetic stuff was completed is when the mechanical stuff started. After that, it seemed like once a month I'd start the car and instantly need to reach for the OBD to pull codes.

That's why I leave mine dirty and unwaxed. And she runs like a top.

.....And I'm a sinner! Even if it doesn't run, it will look like it's going 100 mph sitting still. I just can't deal with a dirty car; although newly appointed work responsibilities prevent me from keeping the current ride pristine.

Regarding cosmetics, my feeling about that is my car probably doesn't care how it looks cosmetically but it certainly does care how it feels mechanically, which is why I place a premium on taking care of all things mechanical.

How can you blow an Integra engine? Rust maybe but blow an engine, was it boosted? I had a 94 Integra it was fun to drive but noisy

I won't ever sell the E90 but when my wife's Volvo ever dies I will give her the E90 so I get to still drive it, I still love it. Besides they are worth next to nothing.

As much as I like Porsche's they are all tiny inside or they scare me when I think about working on them. I started to like Audi s4, but I've read even the B8.5 has mechatronic issues with the trans, that would completely screw you with a huge bill. VAG always seems to have major expensive flaws.

That leaves the F30: m340i, the B58 is awesome. I've driven my brothers M240i and it's awesome but I like Sedans. I know a lot of E90 guys shit on them but I think compared to modern competition it was more fun to drive compared to the S4 and the engine is intoxicating.

I keep mine in top cosmetic shape but I spend all of my money in keeping it mechanically well, its largely bone stock. The other thing that helps is I havent had a car payment in years and I just started banking that cash into a car account for repairs and towards another car. It was CPO so no real repairs the first few years and noting major since so the account has 30k in it.

Since Ive got that reserve I do "shotgun" repairs. If something breaks (or is statistically about to break) and its a bitch of a job no wear or fragile items get put back on. Starter goes? All of the hoses/clips/etc under and touching the intake plenum get replaced. One coil goes? All 6 get replaced. waterpump reaching EOL? It, the stat and all of the hoses they touch, gone! Shocks were EOL? Replaced it all. Shocks, bump stops, boots, bushings, tie rods, etc. Car steers like new. My OCD ass even replaced all of the soft-touch plastics inside that got soft and tore, so even the interior is like new.

As a result Ive only had 1 honest to god breakdown (knocking on my solid ash desk) in the 9 years Ive owned the car, when the valvetronic motor died.

My original plan was to put another 5/50,000 into it and reevaluate but who knows now since I no longer commute to work. It might end up being 10/50,000. As long as I can be confident it can get me to the beach or tow the bike to the track on any given weekend it will remain in the stable.

The real question is, will it move on from you?

Pretty much same boat here, have to be an f30 vs b8/b8.5 platform. I think I shared how dissapointed I am with my b8 s4 which had selector lever sensor fail, much worse than mech. Mech is easy, drop the oil pan, replace the solenoids and pcbs and it will work again. That sensor though has to have the trans come of and torn down. Also, dual clutch, dmf do wear out as well as bearing seat where the clutch drum shaft rides. Add melted cats if you start tuning it and it becomes rather difficult to own it if you try to DIY everything. Wish it was really fun for all the trouble. I think I mentioned that I like f chassis 4 series more than non-sport 3 series.

How much was that repair? Does it also affect the B8.5? Do you still have the car?

I like the B8.5 S4, last generation of Audi manual supercharged V6. I've driven a tuned one and they are quick and handle relatively well, they just seem so disconnected from the road compared to the e90.

How was it to wrench on? I heard there are many things you can't access without taking the engine out?

Going in a completely different direction for the next one. F350 dually super duty to tow a 5th wheel toy hauler.

Haven't decided what will go into the toy hauler yet.. Definitely something light and fun.
