335xi m5 brakes?
Did anyone fitted M5 calipers in front and can they fit without any modifications? I know m5 has 374mm discs and 335 has 348.
Brakes are poor on our cars but I don't want to spend to much money on upgrade.I can get this M5 calipers and rotors cheap? Ideas? Anyone tried it? |

Considering that the m3 brakes don't fit I doubt the m5 brakes do but I don't know for sure.

I agree ^
I always thought these brakes were fine. I've only considered upgrading if I upped the turbos.

I think the brakes are rather poor. They're not terrible but there's definitely room for improvement. I'm on stock pads though.
OP; have you tried different pads? |

I consider the 335's brakes to be pretty decent for a mild sports sedan. Its not like the car comes with 500hp from the factory...

I have ATE Super Blue oil dry :280 °C wet:192 °C Brembo disc and EBC pads. The pedal feels good and it is not soft...Just car seems to slow down very very slowly. I thought M5 larger discs (374 mm vs 348) and m5 calipers would work much better.Long time ago I saw on some forum someone made that mod and did not require any significant change (in front).Change was for mounting of discs not calipers.Calipers are perfect fit |

I don't know but I just did the 1M or 135 front and rear brembo calipers with rotors and super blue oil and I had same problem.
The pedal feel perfect but when it comes to stop it takes twice the time to slow down then stock setup. Don't know why would 6 piston calipers be worst then oem? Or is it due to oil and brake pads ? Or need to upgrade the brake lines ? Or the whole setup is shit because of the Whight difference? Any idea? |

The M3 uses single piston on all 4 corners just like 335... This has been discussed many times. I'm surprised you did this swap without knowing that you WOULD lose braking distance. Unless it was strictly cosmetic it wouldn't make sense to do the swap. You'd be better off doing a rotor, pad, fluid upgrade.

It's been said before that the 335i brakes are better than the 135i brakes. The calipers look better, but rotors are smaller and don't perform any better. Bigger brakes doesn't necessarily mean you stop faster. Bigger calipers doesn't necessarily mean you stop faster either. What type and size of tires are you using? What's your suspension setup? Braking is ultimately limited by available tire grip. The advantage for bigger brakes is they have greater surface area for better heat dissipation to prevent brake fade. This doesn't really come into play in daily driving. Braking capability at less than the limit (eg day to to driving) has more to do with the friction compound of the pad than it has to do with brake size. Also, perceived braking ability has to do with the initial "bite" (aka grabbiness) of the brake pads, irregardless of the absolute braking ability. I upgraded my front 330i brakes to the 335i brakes (mostly for looks). Initial impression was that it felt WORSE at normal braking because the newer low-dust OEM BMW brake pads in the 335i brakes had a lot less initial bite than the old high-dust and grabby OEM 330i brake pads. But at the limit, stomp on the pedal, ABS activating braking capability felt about the same.

The brakes on the 335 are by no means great. Above average for daily driving yes, but they are not performance oriented in any way.
I actually had better luck with my stock pads than my Hawk ones I have now. Wish I could afford stop techs....or put c6 z06 brakes on my 335 lol
