Think I jinxed my self...

I just voted on this poll that I was between 90 and 100K. Without replacing the water pump. Well guess what @93k I had to replace the water pump and thermostat. That third bolt is an asshole am I right?

A. 2009 / 328i / manuel
B. It failed (overheated went into limp mode with my wife driving, scared the shit out her. She was on a busy road)
C. $412 in parts for FCP of course. No labor did it myself.
D. Replaced by me.
E. No damage.
F. No track days, she is not that kind of girl..

I have 160k. Finally doing the t-stat and WP this winter. No codes, just preventative maintenance. I've owned the car for over 100k but I doubt it was ever replaced.

288k miles.

first 200k it was maintained by BMW with no record of replacement. 200k-280k it did not get one. Now I have it.

Not to say it wasn't done in in a driveway or by an indy during the first 200k, but as far as I know right now it's original.

(go gentle on the trolling, I've only had it a few months and it's needed a lot of TLC. It's on the maintenance list. Priority got bumped after I caught the radiator fan running in the garage after shutting the car down last week)

Garage List
Had 178k on my last N52 (2006) that still had the original cooling system, including the pump, I had never touched it in the 78k miles (3yrs) that I’ve owned it, with one exception for the micky mouse adapter that I’ve swapped out for a CNC one.

Otherwise... bump for a great thread.

I just pulled the (still good) pump out of my wagon. Radiator sprung a leak so it seemed like as good a time as any to do the pump/Tstat/Expansion bottle maintenance. Particularly since I already had all the parts.

It's not original. Neither is the Tstat. (I believe OE for 2006 was an aluminum Tstat housing). Tstat was missing one of the mounting screws. All the band clamps were pointed in directions that indicated somebody installed them in-situ. As opposed to those krauts at the factory that slap them on all willy-nilly with the engine sitting on a trolly.

If I'm reading my German identification numbers correctly it's a 2011 vintage Piersberg. Same p/n as my new one, but version .01 whereas my 2020 build is version .20. Interestingly the pump I pulled out has a BMW logo on it, which suggests it was purchased from a dealer.

I don't know for certain, but a 2011 pump would suggest the Piersberg version .01 ran for over 200k in my wagon without failing.

I had my WP, thermostat, and radiator + hoses and the Mickey Mouse flange replaced in January 2021 @ 137,291mi.

A. '07 E92 328i, 6MT

B. I was randomly checking my car using Carly and the ECU had a shadow code stored (002E84) but the car ran fine and didn't show any symptoms (yet, anyways). From what I could see from under the hood, the old WP had some rust spots on it which made me think it was factory original along with the thermostat being aluminum rather than plastic.

C. $477 in parts from FCP Euro

D. Replaced by indy: $1,800 in labor along with a coolant flush and the radiator also needed to be replaced as the upper neck cracked when they tried to remove the upper radiator hose.

E. No damage.

F. No track days.

Bought an amazon waterpump and replaced it during the pandemic for preventive maintenance since back then we had the stay at home order...

fast forward to July 2022, that cheap chinese $140 waterpump failed. Not too bad and can't really complain because it lasted about 3 years, but this time I wanted to not be cheap and bought the kit from ECS tuning. I didn't even check because I assumed it was gonna have quality parts like the kit from FCP euro, but I went with ECS because it was a little cheaper. Low and behold when I replaced it in July 2022, I found it weird that it was a Bavarian Autosport Brand water pump. It looked exactly like the amazon/chinese knockoffs but it had a Bavarian Autosport branding printed on the body of it. Very cheap printing at that as its was faint and could rub off pretty easily. Anyway, that sorry ass water pump failed in less than 2 months. Now I have to go through the return process and they're giving me the run around.

Do not buy the kit from ECS tuning...I should've bought it from FCP euro and had peace of mind with their lifetime warranty.

Previous owner replaced thermostat and waterpump at around 100k miles as preventative maintenance. Did a bunch of suspension and other work too. See you at 200k.

1/2" socket doesn't work in this specific bolt because of the subframe.
I'll pick up smaller E12 socket tommorow. I think 1/4" might handle it.
At least thermostat housing looked like original from the factory. Will see if the pump is. 245000km.

Pump is casted in year 2006. 245000km. Preventive maintenance, not a pump failure.

a. 2007 328i manual
b. Failed-ish - the pump would work but then stop after driving for a bit, restarting the car would restart the pump, it would run for less and less time. I bought the car like this at 125k miles.
c. I believe I paid about $550 for the parts - pump, thermostat, & every hose I touched.
d. I did the work myself.
e. Not that I am aware of. Car now has 156k.
f. Not yet.
