My LCI headlights were purchased from another forum member here who installed what I think are OSS LED angel eye rings.

They look great from the front... but, the re-seal job is just not cutting it. There are gaps between the lenses and the front of the housings... if I grab a pair of pliers or something I can squeeze the two together, but it just opens back up.

Water gets in, and at this time of year, saltwater gets in.
I just lost another adaptive control module *and* this time a turn signal module due to saltwater getting on the boards and frying them.

Any ideas for how to re-seal them? Should I try to squish 'em together then heat with a heat gun? Should I completely disassemble and replace the black gooeygoop and then try again?

Suggestions welcome, but I'm done dumping money into replacement modules.

You need to remove the lens, remove all the old crap adhesive and apply a new seal and reseal them. Most use butyl windshield adhesive sealant tape.

If you don't want to do that then maybe try to seal them all the way around with silicone.

That sucks man. I would be bullshit if my custom headlights leaked.

If you don't care about looks I would goop them up.

If you care about looks take them apart and then reseal them correctly.

You could also try a desiccant pack in the headlight to suck up any moisture. Make sure it is REALLY dried out. Also make sure you clean the old sealant off completely. One idea is to just buy brand new headlight covers as you are opening them up anyways. Maybe put a headlight protective film on while you are spending more money and time on the headlights. Just a thought.

The goo in there now looks like it is a bead of butyl, which is still soft, 3 years later?

When you say "reseal them", is that just putting in the new tape and then clamping them with speed clamps or something for a day? Will the sealant tape "harden up"?

I'll take a couple pics tonight. I think whoever did it must have done some cutting, as the connecting joint looks awful.
Wish the seller had... erm... mentioned that the install was so shoddy.

I guess my question is... if using this butyl stuff... what actually *holds it* closed? there aren't any clips.

Yes when I say re-seal I mean removing old glue/tape, putting new glue/tape and clamping them.
It should get hard(er), but wont fully solidify. To get the adhesion/seal it needs proper pressure/clamping to form the bond.
