M3 replica bumpers and fitment on sport/M models
Every M3 replica bumper on eBay states it will not fit a sport model or m package model cars...
Can anybody explain why not? My previous 335i was an 09 LCI sport package and the bumper fit after some modification.. I now have an M package 328i 2011 and need to buy a front bumper. The original M-tech bumper was smashed and needs a replacement. Can somebody help me find a good replacement? I'm up for either the M-tech or M3 replica but I love the look of the M3 replica more. I also have PDC so there has to be holes for that as well... Any help/advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you guys |

I think it has to do with the sport models having an oil cooler? Don't quote me since I'm NA but I think some people have made it work

The bottom tray and wheel wells will not line up perfectly and there will be some small gaps. Not a big issue but it won't be a perfect plug and play install.

I can attest to this. I have an 08 prelci Msport. Went from OEM Msport bumper to an M3 replica. The under belly tray lined up just fine. The wheel wells did not fit perfectly, as there were large gaps underneath. I ended up purchasing some replacement non-Msport wheel wells from rock auto (which were junk and not OEM quality at all by the way), and tried to make those fit. Unfortunately, the OEM brake ducts did not line up properly, so I ended up just cutting the non-Msport wheel wells from rock auto and attached them appropriately underneath.
Here are some pics... Here are the gaps:

So then do original M3 bumpers also fit our E9X models? By fit I mean, could you make it work with the right modifications...

Here's an example of what I'm looking at...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/250975395452...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT description states WILL NOT FIT M3 or SPORT PACKAGE MODELS. They state it's a direct plug n play... my assumption is it will fit, just not as simply as it would for standard packages. Can anybody who has an M package LCI model attest to this? Pics/comments very much appreciated. Thank you. |
