New 335i owner, help?

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a 335i n55, and I've been having a few problems, I don't know much about these cars, so help and advice is needed. The car was running fine for a good couple of weeks, until I started smelling a burning oil smell, a week after that the ABS, FTM, and traction light came on then went off and it comes on and off while I drive the car. Also that same week, I was driving around 50mph and put my foot down a little bit, and the car jerked and then went into limp mode. I haven't driven it since and the car is going into BMW next weekend. I also searched for faults on the car but no codes were showing.

That's strange, limp mode always triggers some kind of a code.

Are you using the right tools?

I just used a general OBD2 fault scanner, there were no warning lights on the dash when I checked it though, when I restart the car everything goes back to normal

ABS - Is likely to be the Speed Sensors on the wheel.
Check where you park for oil leaks aswell, Open the hood and inspect for oil..
Very weird nonetheless, Keep us updated without codes its hard to say..

You could try using MHD to log the codes

I saw quite a few forums regarding the wheel speed sensor, other people also said it could be the HPFP, I don't see any oil leaks, my charge pipe also blew off a couple times when I first got the car but it's definitely not that now

Yeah it came off from the intercooler side after I initiated the kick down, I heard it's a common problem with the OEM charge pipes

Yes i highly recommend you upgrade your chargepipe before any high boost pulls if your still on OEM.

Update

So I purchased Carly for BMW to check the codes, it says front left wheel sensor, then in transmission section I'm getting code CF30.

Any ideas?

Not in any order but..

Check LPFP ( Back Passenger Seat)
Check Fuel Regulator (Behind Driver Seat)
Check HPFP (May have to remove Intake Manifold)
Check Rail Sensor

Do logs with MHD
Check for dramatic drops in rail pressure
Check Cyl 1- Cyl 6 For Timing corrections

The burning oil smell is typically a valve cover gasket leak that drips off the back corner of the head down onto the exhaust pipes. The hot exhaust pipe burns the oil drips so you don't see any below the car, but you definitely smell them. Take a flash light and look down at your exhaust pipes between the engine and fender and see if you can see black burnt oil residue.

Best bet here would be to take logs so we can have some kind of data and try to figure out what is going. All you need is a good K+Dcan cable and MHD Logging which you can get by downloading MHD on the Google Store and buying the Logging pack. Honestly, if you want to own a N55 and take care of it, logging is something you will have to do sooner rather than later.

It's a bit hard to point out like this and say: "O yeah check this and this and this and that". Logging really helps to narrow it down and can provide stuff that you can't see with physical examination!

+1 i agree , Logs will definitely do you justice. But if your not able to buy the software immediately i suggest at least checking before buying anything other than MHD
