I've been looking into a remap on my 335i and have been put off by all the seeming potential problems - I need the car to be 100% reliable and am not going to risk the bolt-on xede box.
However, does anyone know if the remap done by Birds (expensive at over £2k!!!) is likely to be more reliable? I understand that this is done as a modification directly to the ECU and not a bolt-on box, but does it work in a more reliable manner than the xede/procede? |

I have been in discussion with Birds over the remap. It is expensive compared to a typical DMS cost...but then DMS can not offer an ECU remap yet.
The Birds product is not a plug in box (I beleive it is in the Diesel) it is a complete ECU remap which involves sending the ECU to Germany. The turn around time estimated for this is 5 days, so if you go down this route you loose the use of the car for these days. The positive side is they claim to have done a lot of testing on the remap and back it up with a warranty and claim not to have any issues/fauls with any of the conversions done over 20 years. The ECU can be reverted back at a small charge. From my dealings they seem very professional and positive. I am still deciding if it is worth the cost!
