So, regarding the Koni FSDs and the Eibach kit, if I am reading correctly, that setup will give a smoother ride with BETTER handling? If so, Im in

Smoother, yes... it will be a little more "harsh" when you go over speedbumps, but the ride will be smoother and the handling will be improved greatly.

Fraggy ... its s stiffer spring rate, not by much though and I don't think Eibach or Sachs (the oem spring supplier) ever gives out the spring rate numbers. In addition to a stiffer damper. The FSD are "dual rate" dampers, under high frequency they soften up, low frequency ... like a speed bump ... they stay stiff.
Mine aren't on the car yet so I don't have direct experience with this particular application. But I've had Bilstein sports on my other cars, which are always regarded as stiffer than Koni. The best description I can give you is that it's "firm". It's not jaring, it doesn't crash over bumps but it's firm. For the most part, it felt better than oem because it was firm but controlled. OEM sachs always feel harsh and "slappy" to me like they're banging around off bump stops, where the bilsteins felt like it was always controlling the compression and rebound. Where the bilsteins always got tiring through was over manhole covers, freeway expansion joints and potholes. Which is where the FSD is supposed to soften up. That's why I figured I'd give them a try. For point of reference, my zsp with 18" rfts rides a ton harsher over all surfaces than my e46 with 235/35-19 h&r sports and bilstein sports did. |

How does the car feel now? Ride, handling, etc.
Also, is the total diameter of the 19s with tires larger than the 18s with the tires?

Gotta bump this old thread up. Just got my Koni FSD with Eibach pro-kit and H&R rear sway install at DTM Great install work at DTM and thanks to Ryan and Tristan for the setup. Anyhow, I am amaze at the handling improvement over stock ZSP, the ride is more comfortable even on crappy LA roads. Overall, better road feel, turn ins and generally finding myself driving faster on the freeway too For all the people in SoCal, you'll probably know the 10W to 710 fwy 180 degree onramp. I usually drive around 35-40 mph in the turn, today I found myself doing close to 50 and car still feel planted to the ground, overall great setup :rocks:

330i driver thanks for the pics ... I didn't even notice you posted them until today.
I'm glad to see the drop isn't too aggressive, I could handle it being a tad lower but I'm hoping I can convince myself I'm done with coilovers. |

I had sworn off doing anything to this car. I've modded almost every other car I've had but I figured for how much engineering BMW put into the car you couldn't really improve much. But, it sounds like the Koni FSD/Eibach kit is a big improvement.
Exactly what I'd want in suspension which is keeping the comfort and getting better handling. At first I thought the car handled great...now that I've put a few thousand miles on the car I notice how much it rolls in corners and how jittery the car gets over rough surfaces. If I can correct those two problems with a shock/spring install I'm sold! Now I just have to sell the wife on that....hahaha... at least I'm not looking to do engine mods. |

thanks
so i noticed there is probably only a handful of people have this Koni FSD/Eibach combo here... eldestructo, ScBlacksunshine, 330i Driver... is that correct? IMO, this combo's drop is just right, classy and yet sporty... i might get this set ... do you gusy think it will look fine on non-sport with 161? I have been search for a pic where i can see how it will look like before i get it and the closest one I found was probably Shragon's.... |

Yea, I think it will look good. I really hated my 161s until I got H&R and then I liked them a lot, but had other wheels on order already. I think you'll get the same feeling. The 161s look a lot better when the car is lowered.

Well, add another to the list.
I did the Eibach PK/Koni FSD set up today at DTMAutohaus. Buttery smooth and a touch less roll and the perfect (classy as the OP said) drop. I'm very satisfied with the set up, after some serious arse kicking Canyon runs, to break it in..... The tires were beggin for mercy and the car handled great. kj |
