Just wanted to chime in and say- l like my FSDs a lot, paired with OEM springs. I got mine (brand new) a little under $600 shipped, about a year ago.
A definite improvement over OEM shocks. If you want the car to ride smooth, not make crashing sounds, dont want to adjust your rebound every now and then (and as I see it, a lot of people who use yellows leave it on soft anyway); then FSD is perfect. The handling is very good as well. There is some lean obviously, but a noticeable improvement over stock, plus I actually like some lean.

They way I see it- if these were good enough for a Lamborghini, they are good enough for BMW. These really should have been stock shocks.

If you want a better track capabilities, then you have to look at coilovers.

You're better off with just koni yellow all around IMO.
Jeff,

Are you aware of people using yellows at all 4 corners of an XI on STOCK springs?

I had yellows with H&R sports on my e36, but that saw a lot of auto-cross punishment. It was perfect for that, but not the roads around chicago. So, with my 08 335xi, i'm looking for better struts/shocks, but want to keep height and springs stock..

resurrecting this very informative thread. like quite a few other people i am torn between yellow and fsd with eibach pro. i run 19s non rft on my 2011 e90 335d and its non sport suspension, when you guys say fsd runs like like stock are you talking about sport or non sport stock? i want to go stiffer then my non sport. i don't know about other e90s but my rear end "jumps" every time i hit a bump or a pothole makes the car very unstable and i hate it.
Looking at this kit here http://www.ebay.com/itm/322216924075
Guy says he can replace yellow with FSD if i wanted to.

But my other question is how low can i go with 19s? I'm not trying to go supper low just wanna give it a more aggressive look and still be able to drive it normally, i guess maybe sport stock hight or just a hair lower.

Both great shocks but I would lean Koni Yellow, If you lean sporty... Spent 8 hours in this car today driving to Houston at "semi" high freeway speed a' la Texas! and wish it was a bit more planted/stable at high speed. Don't get me wrong, FSD's are fantastic but the Koni yellow gives you adjustability and likely better performance at high speed. Any time you do a self adjusting system there are compromises and as I lean sporty I would do the yellows if I did it again. But the wife would likely disagree as she finds our other car too stiff with PSS9/10 coils, and she loves this ride on the rough roads down here in Dallas.

How much of a drop do you think Eibach pro kit will give me?

Go Koni Yellows -- I got the FSDs and wish I had something sportier. As Seattle said, the adjustability is key. Also as an FYI -- that "jumpy" feeling in the rear is a combination of a bunch of things back there, not just the shocks (open diff, too much diff movement, soft/worn subframe bushings, etc).

Thanks for the FYI, I'll check all the bushings while its up. Someone here also said something about replacing subframe bushings alone with shocks.

This much, as listed per ECS:

In my E92, I did Koni Yellow and H&R springs. Got about a 1 " drop.
Tightened things up considerably. I had a huge smile on my face just getting out onto the road. Wouldn't look back.

Like others have said, there's multiple things that could be causing the unstable ride. Look into getting Monroe upper and lower shock mounts when you do the shocks. They are far superior than OEM and much cheaper.

If you want shocks that will keep the car planted, get koni yellows. If you want a mild drop, Eibach springs are the way to go.

It's closer to a 1 inch drop and .08 in the rear. It's the most conservative drop available.

Couple that with the Koni yellow IMO.

thank you all for your input. I will go with yellows.

Cant seem to find upper and lower shock mounts for 2011 335d. lots of people say good things about Danin shock mounts but i can't find any for 335d, same things with Monroe

What should i replace while at it? I think I'm going to replace subframe bushings and rear differential carrier bushings maybe also for and rear sway bars. What else, any links?

Are you doing the rear sway bar? IF so then that would be a good time for the rear sub frame bushings too.

Yes buying M3 bushings. Would you recommend replacing rear sway bar?

So operantly Dinan doesn't fit 335d but I checked part numbers and they appear to be the same with 335i. Dinan said if part numbers are the same they should fit but a seller on eBay tell me his supplier said they will fit 335d. Can anybody here confirm this?
