Kinda half tempted to cross over Irish sea to join yous for the weekend. Fancy doing something different! Was mapping my route there from holyhead. Not too bad assuming the A55 across top of wales is a half decent road! Its telling me about 2.5 hours from holyhead to buxton?

I've no idea were Holyhead is but can't you get a ferry over the Mersey docking at Liverpool? If so Liverpool is only about 1hour.15mins away from Buxton 1hour.45mins from Matlock

Hope that helps and would be nice to see you, I like white cars very much

I think ferry to Liverpool is a really slow one maybe overnight one! I can get stena hss very quickly to holyhead which should end up meaning a much shorter journey. About 5 hours on road and then maybe bout 2 hrs on ferry though I have to check that. Prob time enough coming over on morning of 30 aug?

Would be great to see you.
It's a pretty good run from memory, though I've only done it in the dark. The crossing from Dún Laoghaire is also pretty quick.

You would get full marks for effort mate! If you can make it, then great! Most of us stay over in a hotel for the night so we generally make a weekend of it...

If anyone is interested I dropped by the Lion Hotel today in Belper, to see what their rates are for the Early Bird Saver only £55 B&B, it's a nice hotel in town, next to Total, on Bridge Street, they have enough parking!

Right in town so, you have their restaurant for something to eat which was lovely last time I went there, The Dev across the road, A couple of indian and chinese places too.

Check out the hotel at - http://www.lionhotel.uk.com/homelion.htm

Could be a contender for the UK6 Hotel?!

Another place I was possibly thinking was

http://www.hodgkinsons-hotel.co.uk/index.html

Hodgkinsons Hotel is in Matlock Bath it is lovely very tradtional though only 8 rooms so probably too small!

More towards Buxton and if you want to push the boat out this place is excellent, been here myself it is truely bella - http://www.wye-house.com/

This one in Hathersage also looks nice - http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do

Can't find the one we stayed in Buxton last time, doesn't seem to be on Best Westerns website LINK not working go onto The George in Hathersage.

One more that is a known favourite of mine - a little expensive but I think they would do a group booking couple of miles from Bakewell, already on some wonderful roads

http://www.hassophallhotel.co.uk/index2.htm

Gives us something to think about!

Generally we get together and have a talk around the cars, get a few photos of the group and generally catch up and get to know new members. Then we'll head off / stay for some lunch and take a drive in the afternoon (either to a plan or winging it).

Towards the evening a meal and the occasional drink followed by an overight stay for those that want.

Then on the second day there is a general thinning out.. those with headaches get the wife to drive home and others head off. Those remaining will probably head out for a bit of a drive, lunch, a few pics and then scatter towards home.

You certainly shouldn't be put off by the numbers of faster models. Yes, some will drive in a spirited fashion, but there will be a group somewhere that will cater for your desired speed. Basically we set a destinattion, head off as a group and normally get split into threes or fours of a like minded mentality.

As we had about 15 rooms last time it might be a bit crowded.

If we are thinking of the Lion Hotel, I'll see what group discount I can get if you like? I'll pop down, they are decent local people there It is nice too!

Hodgkinsons is very quaint and is lovely but only 8 rooms and I don't know about parking...

LOL about being rich, you are never rich when you own old cars either

Hassop Hall is delightful though and worth every penny and the roads around it are beautiful.

On Booking.com most are showing few rooms left quite a few without any! So we need to get a move on by the looks of things!

A modern place just off Junction 28, no idea what it is like or really were it is, can't think of anywhere with a hotel in that area - http://www.hotelclub.net/DirectHotel...kout=2008-8-31

Another the New Bath Hotel at Matlock - http://www.hotelclub.net/DirectHotel...kout=2008-8-31 Which I would recommend it is alright with plenty of car parking

One in Chesterfield - http://www.hotelclub.net/DirectHotel...kout=2008-8-31

Makeney Hall - http://www.signpost.co.uk/heart_of_e...derbyshire.htm

Porscha, flicker your eye lashes and see what group discounts you can negotiate

Parking is important, so make sure the car park is a sufficient size and safe and secure

Lion Hotel in Belper has no rooms

The Best Western in Buxton doesn't either, finally found it, Called Lee Wood. This is all according to the internet!! Of course.

Can we have names of who is coming and who would like a room they when we know how many we can sort the Hotel out.

Seems insane for me to stay but I can't be bothered to drive back at 2am in morning and miss Sunday, so yep even though I live round the corner I'm stopping!!

E90Post UK6 30th -31st August.
1. Porscha! - 30th and 31st - Staying over.
