When I questioned a few aftermarket tuners, they were much more keen to develop kits for higher end models. They said typically the standard 3-series buyer doesn't modify their car as much as an M buyer. The M buyer was more likely to put out a larger amount of money to modify their cars. Statistically, I would imagine that the number of kits sold ends up being a wash. You have less M-cars on the street, but a higher percentage of them modifing their cars with these kits. You have many more non-M cars on the street, but a much lower percentage of them modifing their car with kits. That being said, the non-M group has been waiting for so many years for a kit and it will have a huge surge at the very beginning and then taper off over time. All in all, should still be worth it for them (hint, hint ESS)

I'm using these numbers in my requests, that's why I wanted to make sure people on the list were "ready to part with XX dollars tomorrow." So lets be certain with this, I don't want to end up looking like an ass.

WOW at Bimmerfest yesterday there was a guy with 2- E46 with ESS twin screw superchargers. One is stage 2 with 7-8psi and 320+HP and the other is a stage 3+ built engine with 15psi and 420+HP. He says the power, delivery and driveability is unbelievable. The install is just as the ESS site pictures. Can't wait for a N52 system.

I doubt it will be 5K all in - but I would definitely be down for this.

I think the target price is $5-$7k. I know that's quite a big difference, but we don't know yet.
The issue is that they haven't told me which route they want to take (twin screw vs. centrifugal) which impacts cost directly. Right now, their 3.0 M54 kits for the e46 are under $5k ($4,995 or whatever) and they utilize a twin-screw. That would be my choice right there; twin screw is the way to go and it would replace the intake manifold, essentially (or nearly) making all 3.0 N52 motors the same as far as power output is concerned so you 328i owners would be thrilled. I'm still trying to get information. But I can't get what isn't there yet. Unfortunately, it's not that I'm losing interest, but I'm being swayed by going the route of an N54 or N55 swap instead. That way I wouldn't be at my power ceiling already. But I'm staying involved until this thing is either built and selling or scrapped. Just and FYI: I know a lot of you don't know me, as I'm new to E90post, but I've been modifying BMWs for 10 years. Last car was a S52 swapped e30 with a lot of custom work. |
