BMW PE + AFE Midpipes?

Been thinking of doing this to get more sound out of the PE. I've also been thinking about headers, but those are gonna be much more costly for me to do. Anyone have any experience with BMW PE + AFE midpipes?

Keep the second cats in place. Save up for the headers and a tune. You will get much more power from the car that way, and your car won't smell as it would if it were completely catless.

Thanks! Thats the route I was kinda leaning towards, even though its quite a bit more expensive. Is the 3 stage intake manifold also worth doing along with the headers and tune?

I've been running AFE mid-pipes with BMW PE for a little over a year now - love it.

I have a 128i, but I have the SuperSprint mids with the PE...it is very throaty, perfect amount of pops/bangs.

much louder then PE along plus lots more popping, sound level still manageable for street use, no drone.

Oh so it does add more sound than the PE alone?

Thats just what I'm looking for, louder at lower RPM and also higher RPM...I may give these a try then before headers to see if I want it at this level.

Using the same combo and the sound is nice. Or you can go cheap and get a muffler delete. It's actually not too bad and it's pretty loud.

Thanks! I'm going to try out the AFE midpipes. Did you notice an increase in sound with the AFE midpipes?

mid only increase lower rpm sound upto around 4500rpm then it quiet down a bit.

header will increase lower only a bit, but much louder pass 4500rpm.

combine mid and header, way too loud and drone for street with even PE at the rear.

I did, install is pretty straightforward (but it is a tight working area). You'll probably want a crow's foot wrench and make sure to use new gaskets and remember that for each pipe you'll want to thread both nuts onto the exhaust studs at the same time. The AFE pipes have a larger diameter than your stock pipes, so if you get one nut threaded most of the way on and then try to thread the second one on you'll find that you don't have enough clearance to actually get the nut onto the stud. The tight working area means you can only make very small rotations of the nuts at a time, so you really don't want to go through all the hassle of getting one nut on only to find that you have to back it all the way back off so you can get a nut onto the other exhaust manifold stud.

I suggest removing your entire stock exhaust, then mounting your midpipes, then clamping on the PE once the mid-pipes are in place.

Thanks for the tips! I already have the PE installed, so would it still be a good idea to remove it to get the midpipes on? Im still debating whether i should do it myself or get a shop to do it.

If you can get your stock mid-pipes out without dropping the PE then go for it, I just think it'll be alot easier to get the AFE mid-pipes and PE lined up correctly when it's all on the car vs. sitting freely on the ground.

Okay thanks! I just bought two new gaskets for the install, i can reuse the old bolts? How long do you think it should take to complete this? It took me about an hour to do the belt tensioner pulley if that helps with maybe an estimate.
