This was not intentional, from what I gather, they discovered the problem in testing. My guess is no one had a Gen 3 and someone said ,,oh let´s test that one too just to be sure``.

If it comes up, please let the powers that be about the dissatisfaction this is causing some customers.

Public apology - lest anyone (especially Mr. Spira) think I was being argumentative to his initial post. But I do think that the quality of care taken at dealers is going to vary from dealer to dealer and there certainly can be a bias if a customer is known to have influence. My dealer is good and they do good work, but I would still be nervous about them taking my dash apart, and the inevitable arguments about whether scratches were 'already there' or not.

My E90 was built in May '05 so I would expect to hear "sorry, you don't have the right system".

There is really nothing that can be done. The final unit simply doesn't support it. I hate to say this, but eBay may be your only answer (sell Gen 3, and then buy Gen 5)

For the Canadian folks, got pricing from my dealer on this today... apparently its around $460CDN plus install. Seems mucho expensive to me, if anyone else in the GTA has gotten (better) pricing let us know.

I just checked, the Accept screen goes away by itself quickly.

In addition, if you restart the car after it's been off for just a short while, it no longer brings up the Accept screen and iDrive has zero boot time (it used to boot up each time the car was turned off).

Not sure, I ordered mine the day you posted that Bobby Rahal BMW had them in stock ... was that last tues or wed? ... and Morristown was out but said they'd get more Friday. Apparently they did, since they shipped mine Friday afternoon.

I read on another thread that some guy's parts dept told him there were already 400 on back order in the system? Yikes, for nobody really knowing about it that's a lot of orders up front.

Hopefully that means the dealers figure out how to install it quick?

I'm pretty sure you will get the new software when you get your car in for the recall.

My car didn't have any problem except the emission recall.
It's Apr-2005 built.

I checked the service sheet and found out the following line;

"Perform open campaign per SIB 12 06 06 / 06E-A01 Reprogram.
Software update
Re-programed entire vehicle with CIP 22.2 version"

I guess they're still using the word CIP.

i talked to the dealership general manager yesterday and he told me they havent received a part number yet so he couldnt get me a price?

who did you talk to?

The parts guy. On saturday past. He told me he could order it for me right now and i'd be the first to get the install in that dealer
