Today while driving to work my gas pedal stopped working..?

Symptoms:
-gas pedal doesn't do anything but has the same pressure feel that it normally has
-stills idles forward and back, shifts correctly and brakes feel normal
-car starts slow and makes a ticking noise (starter?)
- After car starts the ticking noise goes away

recent repairs
-valve cover/valve cover gasket
-spark plugs about a year old
-battery about a year old
-valvetronic motor about a year old

Coworker thinks the starter is going bad and getting stuck and could be causing this issue...?
