This friday I'm having everything done at my indy shop. I have 80k miles. I'm curious to see if I'll notice a difference in shifting or not.

I had forgotten about the Australian company offering the alloy pan. $650 sounds right for full retail price. The fluid will not turn dark as quickly if kept cooler. I would like to see if Carly shows trans temp so that perhaps I could compare my temp to others in Houston area.

Thanks

I'm running 19" VMR VB3 in hyperblack.

Front: 19x8.5 ET40 - 235/35 R19
Rear: 19x9.5 ET33 - 265/30 R19

I love them.

if Carly shows trans temps I could never find it but the Foxwell NT510 does apparently.

Thank you! I have been looking at 18" VMR's. Inquired about offset and they recommended 18.8.5 ET35 for front and ET45 on a 18x9.5 for rears. They said anything more aggressive may rub, but I'm on stock suspension. No issues with rubbing on rears? Thanks...feel free to PM me

Sorry for thread jack guys

Wonder if the Rockwell scanner from ECS (esentially a NT510) does? Torque3 has one, maybe he can check for us?

I have one I just need to plug it in. I read somewhere it does, which is helpful when doing fluid changes since the trans fluid cannot be over 50 C when refilling.

Ask and you shall receive! The Schwaben Scan tool from ECS, essentially an NT510, does give me the transmission fluid temperature. Which appears to be holding at 50C after a short 1 minute drive. But the car was already warm from getting up to temp about 4 hours ago. These cars hold heat. If you ever have questions about the tool, shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to look around it and see what I can find in it. Happy to help!

Thanks to all 3 of you! You're interaction tells me that there is a sensor, indeed. I did the temperature measure the old school way with an IR thermometer aimed at the pan. My reading never went warmer than ~ 41C. The IR gun ultimately failed a few months later but was accurate at the time I used it for fluid service that day. I aimed it at other known temps at got decent readings. I run the aluminum pan from a 2006 7 series Alpina. I need to go do a freeway drive and then pull over and do a quick read. I also have a hole cut in the lower cover for air flow across the pan.

That exhaust is BEAUTIFUL! And it may be noteworthy that I also found an engine oil temperature reading. So here is, in fact a sensor for that. I remember it being a debate in another thread. Love your setup Cuda!

Yes, I am able to see the oil temp and coolant temp on my Carly parameters.
Thanks for the compliments. My system is a hybrid between purchased kit and custom built on front and back ends.

So I just came back from my Indy shop. I had them service the tranny with the kit and the mechatronics stuff. All I have to say is wow. The cars shifts soooo smooth. As in smooth as butter. Feels like I'm driving a brand new car. The tech said the old fluids looked "toasty" lol. Overall I'm very pleased.

I wouldn't let it go 80k before next change. I'm a 40,000 mile guy personally. I say change it before it turns black. But I don't have to chunk the pan every time.

Sadly I'm owner number 4 for my car. Previous 3 all had CBU issues, so I have had a CBU cleaning, new injectors, SCR tank replaced. The works really. What sucks is none of the previous owners were enthusiasts, I don't think, and my car is at 82k miles without having the transmission fluid changed. I've been noticing a whining sound lately when I take off from a stop. Not pressing the throttle too much I can hear it. I'm guessing it's related to the transmission. About how long does it take y'all to change the fluid and pan? I don't have lift access so it's going to be on jack stands in my barn.

I think you can do the while thing in a couple of hours. The only tricky part is getting the new fluid to the right temp then topping off while the engine is running. I would have an assistant on hand to hand you the fluid jugs.

That's what I was thinking. I have a fluid transfer pump that I'm gonna use, and will probably just lay under the car while it runs and pump in fluid, then have an assistant fill up the pump again so I don't have to constantly go back and forth to fill up the pump. I've also got an NT510 that I'll let my assistant watch so we can keep an eye on the trans fluid temp. I have a feeling the biggest PITA is going to be undoing and redoing the 20-something bolts for the pan. I'm estimating 2 hours from getting the drain plug off to getting the right fluid level in. Then I have to put all of the under-body panels back on.

The biggest pain was the bolts. I used my electric driver to remove, sped things along quite nice. Definitely use the recommended tightening pattern and torque specs. I installed one and it leaked so I did another one after 2k(I considered it a fluid flush)

I'd say 2 hours with a helper is very doable, plan on 3-4 if by yourself. Just going through the fill/warm/shift sequence takes roughly an hour or so IIRC, and it only gets longer if you have to be the one crawling under to fill, then going topside, then going under again, then.....

It was about 3-4 hours I recall including putting the car on jack stands. Per the low profile jack, I can get on and off stands much quicker now. The use of a nice transfer pump (Motive power fill) that has a large reservoir REALLY makes the job easier. The capacity of mine is 1.5 gallons so 6L will be a bit too much but pour 5.5L in and that should work out. I got mine at IDparts.com . It was a gem doing my differential on another vehicle too. I clean it out (including the tube) with denatured alcohol afterwards to not worry contamination. $85 might be steep for some. It depends on what all you will use it for. I've used mine twice and a trans fluid change is about to happen on the other vehicle. We all save money doing maintenance for ourselves so my pay for the savings is getting good tools.
