Oil leak at vacuum pump

A search of the forum did not lead to a direct answer, so here goes.

The car is majorly apart for turbos, EGR, DPF, SCR, CAT, intercooler, exhaust, etc. With everything out of the way I see there is a non-trivial oil leak at the vacuum pump. The pump casing is crusted over with oil, and there is oil leaking down the front of the motor.

Is this a known issue?

Is the fix as simple as replacing the main o-ring for that application? My big turbo has a lot of oil in it from bad bearings (major screeching noise on boost) which is probably due to plugged DPF (as shown on the dash). Is the vacuum pump just leaking oil as a result of that general failure, or does it fail on its own?

Thanks for any thoughts.

This thread might provide some insight: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...php?p=20806171

Also, the oil mess down the front of the block was probably also due in part to that split CCV hose to the left of the vacuum pump. (But you probably already knew that.)

My vacuum pump started leaking after I bought the car. I decided to replace the entire pump as preventative maintenance just in case though (I found a new OEM pump on eBay for around $200).

Getting the pump out while the engine is assembled isnt hard though. Id suggest replacing the rubber o-ring first and seeing if it keeps leaking. If it does, then its a simple matter of just replacing the pump with a new one.
