E93 Top Frozen! Helppppppppppp

So I'm putting my top down and it freezes. The three panels are stacked and hanging over the rear seat.

Key fob doesn't work

Center console button doesn't work

Putting key in door handle and attempting windows up/down procedure does not work

Disconnecting battery for 35 minutes and reconnecting does not work

Unplugging top controller wiring harnesses behind back seat and reconnecting does not work

I am out of ideas. My SA is out of ideas. My dealer is an hour away on thruway and I don't want to drive it there as is...

They told me the manual lowering procedure is extensive and difficult. He tells me it's like a 3 man job.

Can anyone instruct me on how to do it?

Thanks
-Kevin

You under warranty? Get the dealer to send a flat bed your way.

I am under warranty.

The car drives. I don't really see a difference between having it towed and driving it. My concern is that the only two arms supporting all the weight of the roof will flex and this will happen regardless of the means it is used to get there.

Also, Service department is closed so the car will sit outside when it arrives. The top is half down...

Forecast isn't calling for rain but I don't want to tarp it. Got a fresh detail and I can only imagine what a tarp would do to it...

No, car is not on. I tried all of the above at every stage of ignition on to car running. Tried clearing codes.

No success

Is there any indication of it wanting to move? (Like do you hear the motor trying to move it?) Maybe a fuse?

Take pictures for your own record. So before you send it in, you know the condition it is.

Get your dealer to sort it going in, the roof can buckle with wind Force, then youve had it, you cant replace sections of the rook mech you have to replace whole thing, so dont take responsibility esp if its under warranty.

Let your dealer collect and sort it...

Try fuse. Otherwise call the dealer. Express your flatbed concerns via email. If they decide to send a flatbed anyway, take a picture of it as it leaves your custody on the flatbed. The dealer will be responsible for any further damage caused by the wind.

wait your top is frozen and you are worried about your detail ... get the dealer to send a flatbed ... if you drive it they can claim you might have caused the issue

i would be more worried about my car then my paint quality and it being tarped or anything like that

I can hear the click the motors make when they want to do something but can not. I've had top problems before so I know the sound.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I will most definitely be documenting the cars condition.

I have no idea which fuses are for what but I doubt that is the problem. As said above, I can hear the motors getting power. From there it's like they are waiting for authorization from a micro switch that isn't be hit...

Yes, because my dealer didn't spend 15 hours doing the detail and won't spend the money to have it redone. I know that if properly documented, they will take care of any damages to the car as a result of the top.

I'm hoping this gets sorted out easily and my hours are not wasted. I understand the priority of it all but from that comment, I'm going to assume you've never spent days with buffer in hand...

I would probably go for the manual procedure if they will tell you how to do it. Curious how you disconnected the battery when you can't get in the trunk? If you disconnected it elsewhere, you may not have fully powered off the car. Also, if you can get the back seat to fold down, I would reach into the trunk and wiggle the luggage cover a bit in case it isn't fully engaged and stopping the top mechanism if it moved a bit when the top was in motion, otherwise, it could be one of many sensors that is failed. It sort of sounds like it quit moving right after the trunk lid closed and it thinks either the luggage thing has been moved or the the sensor's determining the trunk is closed have decided that it maybe ins't closed. Anything in your trunk right now that could have moved or gotten in the way anywhere?

I had mine do this a couple times and each time I accidentally put somethoing in the side area of the trunk. I put some duck tape there when I was trying to wire an antenna and it shut down the top about half way down and took we an hour to remember and look for the duck tape.

I can get into the trunk by inserting the key directly into the trunk. It manually overrides the top locks. My trunk is completely empty aside from the trim pieces removed for the battery access and the trunk partition is fully locked and seated in the downward position.

The partition is seated and locked in place. There is nothing under it.

I will post pictures so you can see the position the mechanism is currently locked in.

I actually do my own detailing and spend 3 days once a year prepping my car for the summer and two days prepping for the winter buffers in hand and all

but i have also owned a hard top convertible and i know the risk that is run by extended time when a top is stuck in a position that is not the service position, open, or closed it is a a lot of weight to be in a position it is not designed to sustain

I hope you figure this out

Thanks. I've got my fingers crossed for no rain. Forecast and radar look good and I've got a few blankets over it for now....

You can get some of that cheap plastic painters tarp to put over it. It won't scratch or ruin anything and use some blue painting tape so it doesn't leave any residue on your car either.

Incorrect. Anything touching your paint will grind any dust or dirt on the paint into the paint. This gets worse when wind makes the plastic flap against the paint.
