The C63 is dead...long live the C63 (and a new stop-gap car)!
Sometimes, I wish I had an interest in something....well, CHEAPER than cars. They're my weak spot and it'll be no surprise to those that know me when I say that I am selling the C63!
So, what's on the menu then? Well, I've considered a couple Jag's - both the XFR and XKR 5.0 Supercharged are within budget and they get awesome write-ups in the press. But theres just something about buying a 'Jag' that doesn't quite fit with me...yet! What I know is that I do like the C63 - probably more than any other car I've owned after 6 months! So, 'why am I selling it' I hear the sharper ones of you ask? Well, what I want, really really want is the new nearly 500bhp Performance Pack Plus C63 but, at well over £60k with decent spec, it ain't cheap for something that'll lose at least £10k of that in 6 months. So, I thought....'no problem, I'll just get 10% off'....which brings it back within reach, right?? Ohhhh noooooo - those tight-arse MB dealers (and I've tried a few) just aren't giving them away. They're expensive and the early promise by one dealer of 8-9% off has been vetoed by the dealer principle. If I want that car, it looks like I'm going to have to pay for it. So, my plan is this.... Instead of just lose all that money in depreciation, I'm going to wait until Autumn when I KNOW I'll be able to get an ex-demo with at least 10-12% off which is far more reasonable. In the meantime, a discussion with another forum member (Jon1969 - you are a twat for putting this in my mind) has tempted me into something a little different and, if I buy carefully, I reckon I can enjoy a bit of exotica without losing too much extra cash. So, I've managed to find THIS ASTON MARTIN. On the face of it, that car is actually severely overpriced BUT....it has a very nice spec, I love the fact that it doesn't have a black interior, it has the official Aston Martin approved Prodrive Power Upgrade AND, on just one phone call I've already negotiated £5k off the price. Although the discount proves it is overpriced, it does now make it very attractive for the spec and mileage. So, some questions.... Has anyone on here owned a V8 Vantage before? Whats the Vantage like and am I right to expect it to be very poorly made and engineered compared to what I'm used to? Also, despite having the 420bhp upgrade, I'm prepared to expect it to be slow compared to what I'm used to but just how much slower? I tend to spend (read: lose) a good £12-£15k a year with my serial car-buying habits. On the C63, it isn't too bad as I got a good deal in the first place and whether I trade it in or sell privately, I'm getting £48-£49k for it. Not bad - and that shows how well the C63 (with PP) holds it's value. I could get a couple of grand more if I was more patient...but I'm not so thats that! Therefore, if I pay £49k for the Aston now, whats the likelihood of getting no less than 90% of that back when I come to sell it in 6-8 months with another 8k on the clock? I know at the moment these are selling well as a good few hours on the phone today (mmm...busy at work boss!) has proved that nearly all AM V8V's (without black leather currently being advertised on Autotrader & Pistonheads for less than £60k) have sold! And finally...do I need my head reading for considering such a purchase for what I KNOW will be a short term ownership period (even by my standards)? |

F****** h*** man, you change your cars more frequently than I change my Calvin Kleins! I need a career change, I need to start flogging mobile phones!
I would be seriously tempted by the XKR 5.0 option, but I know what you mean when you say you are not quite ready for a Jag next though. I absolutely love the XK/R, it is one of the best looking cars on the road today in my humble opinion. Suspect depreciation could be a killer though unless you bought very low - as I expect you would. I know little about AMs, but they don't do it for me, do they share a fair bit with the Jag XK? I take it you don't agree with my plan then Carl?

...I may as well enjoy it - the money I spend each year on cars isn't life changing (in isolation) enough to stop me enjoying it NOW! Yep...a pretty normal call centre for a large company....nothing special. Only thing is...I personally don't take the calls if you know what I mean. |

Don't know much about the amv8 but ah do know it's Fu***in mint! But so's your amg. Your fortunate enough mate to be able to change your motors around quickly so go for it! They sound the nuts, maybe not as good as the Benz but I'm sure it'll be fun. Once your bored, probably in a weeks time get another Benz all tooled up and you can go chill out again.

Bloody Hell Barmynuts, changing the car AGAIN lol! I am soooo jealous ha ha
That Aston looks mint and I would love one, just too impractical (otherwise one would DEFO be on my drive instead of the M3) for me at the moment. The owner of the business next door to me is on his second Vantage. He had a silver hard top and now has a silver soft top one with black AM 19's on it. Looks and sounds seriously mint! As for residuals, they are doing very well and he actually had the dealer on the phone a few months ago trying to buy it back for £5k more than he paid for it! He test drove a PDK 911 to replace it with, but then decided to decline the offers and keep the Aston instead. He did buy at the start of the year though when prices were on their ass but still good going for a prestige car. I say go for it matey and enjoy it - it will make an awesome summer car |

Mmmm....I've now been put off that one (thanks again Jon )
To be fair, he has a point - it has absolutely no warranty and whilst an aftermarket one can be provided, it won't offer the sort of protection given by Astons own seemingly foolproof one. I think I'm going to find an approved one as they're not exactly know for their reliability and I might also go even cheaper to absolutely ensure my losses in 6 months are minimised. So, I've spotted this (but knowing Stratstone, they never give a penny off ), this (which is quite a bit cheaper still) and this (which isn't cheaper but is all blue inside and out and has very low miles) TBH, none are my ideal colour combo but I've got to admit that to sell it on easily, I might have to go for something a bit more...grey/black! Stop gap car Helen - well, it's better than the '02 Laguna I had as my last one (well, OK, only just better ) and, well....you're not exactly one to talk |
