Please tell me someone somewhere has found an aftermarket in dash navigation unit that is compatible with Logic 7.

I wonder if anyone with Logic 7 has tried this...

Those units are garbage. Any of those eBay few hundred dollar units that claim to be plug and play are usually terrible. I'd go with a legitimate aftermarket company like Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood. These units will have far less software glitches, they will be faster, more accurate, and up to date. Any of them can be adopted to work with a L7 vehicle.

Yes but how much is involved in that process. And I know someone who has that unit and actually enjoys it very much, however, they do not have Logic 7, and everything I read, makes it seem like its next to impossible to install. Also the Pioneer, Alpine, and Kenwoods will cause me to loose steering wheel controls if I am correct? Thanks

Nothing is compaible with the L7 amp only the BMW HU.

The Signals sent from the Logic 7 head unit are non standard fiberoptic and
no aftermarket amp other than the L7 understands them. Mobridge makes
a preamp that deciphers them and changes them to toslink or analog pre amp signal but that is not what you are asking.

Unless somebody came out with one and didn't tell anyone.

Its not impossible to put in an aftermarket system in a L7 BMW stereo just
convoluted and expensive and you have to loose the L7 amp.
The whole BMW system has to go meaning the BMW HU and Amp.
Then you have to put in something like a ms-8(has l7 in it) and amps and speakers to get back to about the same number of channels you had with L7 if you liked
it. Also you should mount the old head unit somewhere in the car to avoid
error messages and for the ability to still get you car to talk to the repair computer without errors.

It sucks for us L7 users. Had I known this I would have definitely bought the Navi equipped car. Anyways, my plan is to just somehow put a stand alone gps from Tomtom or Garmin and put the screen above the dashboard much like the new F30 navi equipped cars. They ahve an LCD screen on top of the dash. I need to find a shop that can set it up clean though.

I agree as well. This is the best solution I have seen to date....
