Question: installing the maps from fscmap.com with the code generated by them will void factory warranty?

Will installing these navigation DVDs affect the other functions - like voice command?

While loading the discs, should the engine be running?

What happens if the process gets interrupted by any reason, will it affect previous map version?

Updated the maps to 2011 PREMIUM by using map code from FSCmap.com
Everything worked great, no problems with code/maps/DVD (used Verbatim DVD+R DL, 2.4x write speed).
Entire process took about 2h.

So what does this mean? You can install the maps, but voice and nav wont work? You need a FSC for nav and voice activation? So very confusing.

There's three different types of FSC codes. FSC codes are used to enable specific features, like you can buy a new car with Navigation enabled, but pay for the voice control option, the hardware supports it but the capability is disabled. If you decided later on you wanted voice control, it's as simple as buying BMW for an unlock code and you get voice functionality without swapping hardware and all that mess.

One enables Navigation
One enables Voice Activation
One enables Map data for a specific year

You have to load a Navigation FSC to enable the navigation menu.
You have to load a Voice Activiation FSC to enable voice

The map FSC is required to load new map data into the CIC, when you buy the map DVD's from BMW, they generate a FSC code for you based on your vehicle VIN and allows you to load the maps. So when you buy the 2011 DVDs from BMW they give you the discs and a FSC code based on your VIN. When the 2012 maps come out, you give BMW another $200 and they had you a new set of discs and a new FSC code based on your VIN.

This was in response to people on the older CCC Navi systems buying a set of DVD and making copies to put online. You can still download the new CiC maps DVDs but without a FSC code from BMW (or from someone who can generate the codes for you) the discs are useless.

Logically, the Navi FSC is a pre-requisite for loading maps on the unit.

Hi I bought from you the CIC Navi plug and play cable. I have already map installed in my retroffited CIC. However it has no satellite images and I think its a 2009 version. Can I use the FSC Map from chemnist with your plug and play device? Thanks again for amazing support. I hope you will get more orders from Germany. :-)

Thanks for info Dracon, Now if I can only get that FSC code through that website fscmap.com. I emailed them but they haven't responded yet. Wonder if they're still in business.

Red face

Hey still having issues....Hope someone can help.

1. Does moneybookers work for people in the U.S. I signed up for an account, verified my address and added a credit card and still can't send money. Can't find a link anywhere.

2. Once you get a working FSC code for your car, is it reusable to update your nav in the future?

Thank to anyone who can answer. This community stuff is fun.

The FSC code is linked to a particular map version, so if you buy the FSC for 2011 maps, it'll work on only the 2011 map dvd's. When 2012 comes out, you have to buy an FSC code for the 2012 map dvd's. BMW did this so you have to return to them every year and shell out $200 for the newest version.

Think of it like a serial number you have to activate each time a new version comes out and the serial number only works with a specific version of software.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I might want to wait for the 2012 maps to come out. Time to do some more research.....

Some great info here. Can you please clear up a couple of small points.

If I retrofit a Cic idrive system that has already had the maps etc installed and working in the donor car into my CCC car (2008 e92). Will I need to buy all 3 fsc codes? ie activation, maps and VR?

Does it matter that the two Vins are different? Is it better to get them matched up and how?

So... If the cic currently has a 2010 map installed, it looks like I need to buy activation codes, will the existing 2010 map work once the new activation code has been entered, thus enabling me to use 2010 maps until the 2012 maps come out?

Just out of curiousity, are you guys doing this 1.5-2 hour update on battery power, leaving the car on, or hooking the car up to an external power supply?
