External front door - suppliers please
Hi All
We're getting our house renovated and need to get a new front door. We want one that let's light in - whether it be a glass panel in the middle or a glass panel on the side We love the aluminium look like this: However, budget isn't stretching to these brands like Hormann as they go for well over £1000. We're looking for something up to £500. Any ideas on suppliers? I've seen this one from Todds doors.. but thought i'd ask in case anyone is in the know with front doors! http://www.todd-doors.co.uk/external...oslo-7364.aspx Thanks Suraj |

Give some thought to which direction the door faces, north or south etc. With one facing south, a light colour is best to reflect the suns rays. Black absorbs heat and becomes too hot to touch and could possibly distort.

have a look at a firm called solidor. Have fitted these to number of properties and always been very pleased with them and they offer a good range

I fitted my front door ten years ago. Think it was called "laminate" It is like a sandwich, hardwood in the middle and a sculpted Upvc skin each side. It can easily be fitted into an existing door frame with ordinary joiners tools. Can't remember where I got mine from possibly B&Q or Wickes.

They feel and look top quality and are built brilliantly. Mine is back and south facing and we've had no issues with fitment or warping etc.

The only thing I would say if fitting a solidor is dont do it in winter. Had one of the earlier models fitted at it happened to snow day later and stayed frozen for two weeks. Door ended up twisting / warping slightly. Actually says in brochure to avoid large temp variations in first 6 weeks post install. Well I was right on other extreme. All others and I've had 6 in total now got done spring, summer and no issues at all. Good thing about them is they are solid firedoor wood inside and fully wrapped unlike some cheap doors which still cost similar but are metal capped on sides and plain soft wood exposed top and bottom. Also worth noting the doors come with a new door frame as well that can be colour matched so mine is brown outside to match brown door and white inside.
