Helen .: Yes thats fine! Was there a particular vehicle you were interested in? Would you like to make an appointment?

Looks like I will give it a miss this time.
For the best I reckon.

Why would you allow some inspections, but with others try and claim they aren't necessary because the cars go through a "39 point pre delivery check", at least be consistent in allowing all or none!

I'm glad you've went with the advice on here. I suspect it's saved you at least one sleepless night.

With regards to the AA/RAC checks. I totally see the point of them for someone like my parents buying a 4 year old Ford Focus or something. Gives them a bit of reassurance and at least some come back on a car that hopefully wouldn't ever throw up more than 1 huge bill in it's life. With something a bit more specialist i think you're always better getting a reputable indie to check it over if you don't personally have the know how. Even popping along to a specialist garage and talking to one of the mechanics can be a big help. I did this when i was researching buying a 996. Just popped in and had a 5 minute chat with a mechanic at a local specialist indie and he gladly gave me his opinion on the models, how many they see in, common issues, what to look for etc.

That is what I thought. It sounds all a bit dodgy.

No - they do (or did back in the day) check independently of me being there.

I naively trusted them as it was AA. But i'm now past 40 and well on my way to a cynical OB.

Having read the rest of the thread - i'm glad you asked the questions of the dealer.

Good luck with search.
