Proudly digging this old thread up ...

I' m doing a CIC retrofit incl DAB (however on a E70 X5), but I am even more confused now when it's said that the yellow and green FAKRA both go to the antenna splitter (at the left hand back side window where the actual antenna is integrated) So what about the DAB band L antenna in the Shark fin; how shall that be hooked up to the CIC? Or maybe the CIC not even supports the Band L feature (since really no one in the word broadcasts on those frequncies..). Maybe the shark fin DAB part is a future thing so to speak (?) Or is the antenna signal for DAB band L taken from the GPS since on the same band (?) A bit of rambling here from my side...

shark fin should have separate connector and L-band module inside, CIC connected to directly to sharkfin for this

Yes there might be a separate connector for DAB band L on the shark fin bot most probably not since there is no green connector around to match the CIC green which is said to be for DAB Band L (but I think the people who wrote the PDF that covers the CIC when it was introduced in 2008 that is circulating around on the Internet are way out there...) I have a blue, a white, a grey and a bordeaux colored connector on the Shark fin antenna. The blue is for GPS for sure and I beleive the white, grey and bordeaux conns all are actually three TEL connectors (two for TCU function and one for the armrest GSM 1900. And hence the DAB Band L is integrated with the GPS since they are on the same band (~1500 MHz) and splitted in the CIC (ok since it's probably a 30 dB gain in the LNA in the sharkfin). The green on the CIC is for TV reception before the digital signal it is passed over via MOST to the video module for de-coding. AND I think that if you have both DAB and TV also the mustard/yellow is used tor TV (diversity) and the DAB antenna in the left quarter glass in the back is not used. Instead the DAB gets its signal from the (left) TV antenna since they are on the same band (basically).

Or not.

Anyway, that's the way I should have done it.

Rambling, rambling...

cic do not accept tv signal, only composite via pins in quadlock
tv signal should be routed to videomodule which performs decoding and conversion to composite
do you want to retrofit DAB in US ? there is no DAB broadcasting in US

I am fitting 6FL to the car with CIC and combox already fitted. So far the coding is done and the USB port works perfectly. The Aux in port is not working however and I understand i need to manually amend the TRC file to activate CDMM_AUX_HU again. However the Aux port still doesnt work. Am I missing something?

I am using a switchable USB AUX port but realise i need the non switchable one. At the moment I'm testing it by plugging the USB wire to the new switchable one and left the Aux connector in the old aux port, as the connector is different in the new Aux/USB port. Is this the problem?

Appreciate if someone could shed some light on this. Thanks!
I too am having this exact problem after I installed a new USB/AUX port in the center console. The aux port (on the new kit) worked before I coded the 6FL to the Vehicle Order (VO), and only the AUX source was available from the Professional HU. After coding 6FL, I can see the USB/iPOD as a source, and it displays track/playlist information from my iPod, but no sound. So something has to be missing from the coding, but I don't know what. Any thoughts?

Last night, I removed the existing $639 and $6FL codes, and adding $6NF. My thought was if the $6FL disabled the console aux port, that removing it would re-enable it. No dice. The iPod control still works, but still no audio.

Looks like I will need to build a 4-wire cable from the console aux to the combox (as described earlier in this thread). Wish me luck!

Update: removing $639 also disabled the Bluetooth connectivity completely. I added it back and Bluetooth was re-enabled. BTW, I don't have iDrive or NAV on my E92, just a plain Professional radio.

I called my local dealership and explained exactly what aux->combox cable I was looking for. They didn't have a part# they could give me, only the retrofit kit part#. I guess I'm still stuck building my own cable, or trying part out from someone on this forum.

In the meantime, I switched the input to the combox to USB2 (blue connector) and it works perfectly! So instead of selecting USB1 on the radio, I select USB2 instead. Normally, the USB2 is located in the glovebox, but since I don't have that socket (yet), I can borrow the input on the combox. NOTE: I had to mod the black cable connector slightly for it to fit in the blue socket on the combox. This only works because I also coded $6NF earlier, which adds the USB2 as a source on the radio.

To recap my temp fix:
I moved my existing black usb cable coming from the center console from USB1 on the combox (black connector) to the USB2 on the combox (blue connector).

What parts would I need to make my own cable? I understand 5m 3 pair shielded cable is what I need to wire the aux to combox. However I cannot find 5m 3 pair shielded cable to purchase. Where have you guys been getting the 5m 3 pair shielded cables?

With 6FL you have to have a y cable, that connects both to the aux and USB. With 6NF, its just a single USB cable to iPhone, and your able to play music through cic?

I haven't figured that out yet either. Was looking at maybe an audio-grade cable, or looking at some part-outs for the cable.

Yes, you need the Y-cable for the center console USB/AUX to work properly. I'm using USB2 to get sound and iPod control until I can get the aux cable sorted.

Looks like I got ahead of myself. Took a look in my trunk and found out I have a TCU 1.5 MOST. Im guessing I would need a combox to get 6FL? Or is there a way to connect the USB/AUX to the TCU?

My car has: 639 BMW Assist w/Bluetooth System, and 609 Navigation system

Yes, for pre-LCI models, adding USB is more complicated than adding two cables from the console socket to the combox. Read earlier in the thread for detail on hardware required.

Hi,
have you find the oem like cable to connect aux with combox?
I have retrofitted the USB with a simple HSD cable, plugged in the combox, coded 6FL and 6NF, but the aux is not working. Now I understand that aux most be connected to the combox, but why I can not find the proper cable for this?
The Y cable you mentioned earlier is the solution? Will this also connect the AUX only by the HSD cable?

How can I make this on F11? With E-sys?

You will need to find a coding board that caters to E-sys equipped F series cars.

Has anyone retrofitted combox telematics? If so, what is the best way to connect pins 5 and 6 to K-CAN high and low?

Thanks.
