To the OP....Gregrobin, let me know what you think of stage 1 when your done. I skipped it, but with what your stated goals are, if you have the wherewithal to stay away from the "mod bug" your going to be over the moon my friend. I'm soooooo glad I went with my e93 and skipped the Corvette convertible right now!!!

It was warm here today (45 degrees) so I decided to tackle the DCIs myself. Not a difficult job except for that back hose clamp and the hose from the kit for the back hose feels too short to me. I only dropped 1 screw driver and one ratchet extension down into the engine bay, somewhere...guess I will find them later
I noticed the T fitting on the vacuum line that you have to remove/reinstall was broken (before me) as well as a missing nut on the intake manifold (before me). I put my thumb over both ends of the vacuum connection with the engine running and did not notice a difference. Should I replace this? How can I find a replacement for that nut? Now that I see how much more room there is in there with the box gone I may tackle the charge pipe myself. |

I was looking at vettes before my purchase as well. Felt to plasticy, clunky and cheap to me having owned 3 BMWs prior. |

I've always wanted a 1996 Corvette convertible.....silver with red interior. Until I drove a few. Never considered the e93 and was unaware of the potential. My family has always been into German cars, BMW in particular. A cousin told me to check them out, an old friend from a Mazda forum started Twizted Tuning, reached out, researched and was hooked!

And yes.....fix that T fitting ASAP. If the DCI's gave you no trouble, and they shouldn't have, the charge pipe is nothing. The hardest part for me was swapping over the sensor....took me a few tugs to remove it from the stock pipe. Really not worth mentioning.

And finally, I got the exhaust shiny and clean yesterday. After a 5 minute drive today one has a small amount of black inside of it again. Is this carbon? Do I need a walnut blast?

Agreed. It looks to me like the nipple is intact and is covered by a piece of the broken vacuum line. If that's the case, and its the line, you should be able to just buy a bunch of vacuum hose, cut it to fit, and replace. Eventually your going to want to replace all of those vacuum hose lines with upgraded lines anyway. Stock or tuned it seems like it'll need done eventually.

Interesting:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1406884 I do have a hard brake, just assumed it was the way it was supposed to feel on the 2008 and this: "The small line that tee's off controls the the exhaust flap. I've disconnected mine and just have a vacuum cap on the tee. Going to reroute the booster line soon. Its annoying to remove anytime I need to service air filters or remove charge pipe. Thanks to the OP for the info." and than this: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=969547 Mine is loud on a cold start and gurgles when letting off of the gas when slowing down. I was able to save enough of the T fitting to reconnect the exhaust flap vacuum hose.
My brake pedal is softer now, and I no longer have exhaust burbles when letting up on the gas pedal. I liked the burbles, may plug that line up. Who knew? :-)
