I've heard of people letting theirs be if it isn't leaking because sometimes it can supposedly not seat correctly and leak if it was good before. I'd buy all kit and tools needed for the seal job and if it's good then you can return

I'm going to do coolant pump while at it. I heard it also requires frame drop or engine lift to clear. Pump is not expensive compared to labor.

Engine looks much cleaner with foaming CRC plastic safe cleaner. Basically detergents I think. I even cleaned my Super20 engine bay with just that, a small brush and poured water over.

Waiting for intake runner gaskets and coil pack sleeves to arrive Monday. I'll put the rest back together ahead of that.

I might try some of that before I do my belt and such since I've got some grime there.

The pump on xdrive is very much doable without a frame drop, just a lot tighter than with rwd and time consuming.

The DME heat sink doesn't clear the engine cover!

I might have to order DME intake specific engine cover. At least cheaper than correct DISA intake.
Is the coil plug supposed to be floating? They are not in there tight, not bolted down like in my Mazda.

The Delphi coils from Autozone looks different. Not sure because they were not made 2010 like the ones with the car.

The heat sink has a specific engine cover for that model year engine. You can just trim the cover, no biggie.

The coils should kind of plug into the spark plug and that keeps them in place aswell as kind of that rubber outer hat they have which seals against the spark plug tube. No bolts.

Looks like engine cover costs as much as a correct manifold with working? DISA and a throttle body. Ordered one from a "low miles" 2007 X5.

I'm going to have to redo the work on intake all over perhaps I'll do oil filter housing gaskets, too now.

I'll sell this intake I have now on forum for discount.
Now I just need to figure out about flashing the car

I wouldn't go as far as to change out the entire manifold just for that cover issue. You can likely get a cover for super cheap out of car-part.com

It looks ghetto lol. I tried trimming the cover to fit supercharger on my NC Miata and it went to hell. Not going to try that on the BMW. I went as far as to get hold insulation to make it nice and stuff. All my mods are made to look OE or get along with OE parts looks.

I don't have a Dremel either. I should buy one.
Got the X5 intake with DISA and throttle body for $228 shipped. I can sell throttle body off as well!
Ordered OFHG kit, OE screws and aftermarket expensive life time gasket. $36 for BAV Auto gasket but it should be worth it.

I need to fix the trim piece on top that hangs the wiring over engine. They all bust every time I try to remove them, just like the E90 I had before. Don't want to replace the whole thing. Looks expensive and will probably crack again anyways.

Found solutions. $104 for it to be cracked again later, or use a machine cap screw and clipping nut like the engine cover....

Coil pack metal shields came in, so popped them in. Was waiting for ONE rubber gasket for intake, I needed two and each eBay seller has ONE. The other one came in already.
Then I got a hearty small box.
Turns out it's OE Wooden 5 speed shifter knob for older BMWs E36 and prior!

I guess I'll keep it? About $170+

I told them I'll send it back if they give me $16 refund and a shipping label

Those coil pack shields I don't think are needed to be replaced on the job but while you're there that's a good idea

E60/90 wooden shifters are going out of production, I think. I bought one in discount last year, now in the car. Feels nicer in hand, hot or cold weather. Matches my walnut interior

I like how they look. Thought it was a specific early model year e90 thing, seen it a couple times. Wonder if it'd match with my saddle brown and walnut. Maybe too much brown idk
