Need help diagnosing my water pump issue

Hey everyone so a few hours after washing my car I started it and got a low coolant light. All of the coolant was gone from the tank and on the ground. I filled the tank back up with water and threw it on the lift to try and find a leak but didn?t see anything. So I bled the water pump to try and see if the pump was bad but it was good to go. It turned on and bled like normal. After starting the car and driving it around for a little bit it seems as though all of the water I put back in was still there but the car wasn?t overheating or anything so the water pump must be fine right? When I had the car on the lift while running I noticed fluid was accumulating where the water pump meets the black compressor housing. Is there some sort of gasket in there that could be bad? Or do I need to order a whole new water pump, compressor housing, and thermostat? Yes I checked all hoses including the expansion tank. After continuously wiping off where the pump meets the compressor housing, water keeps accumulating at that seam. Any ideas on what I should do? The pump works fine as stated above when driven and tested. Thanks for the help!

Not sure what you are calling the "compressor housing" ? I think you are referring to the thermostat.

Other than that, You have found a leak and are asking what to do about it.

Can't help much with this information. There are no compressors down there so trying to give you good advise will do more harm than good at this point.

You have:

- A bad hose
- A bad thermostat
- A bad water pump

Any and/or all of the above

It’s leaking where the pump meets the thermostat. Right where I highlighted. Is there a gasket in there that’s prone to leaking?

That whole assembly is the water pump. You were more correct the first time calling the black section a "compressor" since it is the pumping part of the pump. But confusing because it is not often described in multiple parts - it is just the water pump.

This is generally not a serviceable component and you are not likely to find individual parts for it short of looking for someone that rebuilds water pumps.

I suppose everything depends on how long you can be without the car and how many times you are willing to take it out if you want to try and disassemble it or not.

Try using some JB weld all around and see if it stops the leak

I would say you found your issue then, however that unit is the entire water pump and is not serviceable as far as I'm aware. Quick google search shows you aren't alone in a leaky water pump housing, seems they are prone to cracking.

Pretty sure I had to return my water pump as a core when I replaced mine, or maybe I just tossed it out. I'd love to crack an old one open at that juncture just to see what we're working with. If the housing is cracked I would say you gotta replace it but if its just a leaky seal then maybe you can fix it with some gasket maker

Replace the water pump, that scroll housing is cracked or leaking where it mated to the housing. Do the thermostat and the two smaller feed hoses as well as any others while you are there.

My pump started leaking like that too right at the housing, dont waste time and effort trying to plug, it wont work and it wont ask you a for a good time to fail - you run the risk of overheating. Not worth it. Go fcp and get the lifetime warranty.
