Retrofited E9X Steptronic Gear shifter

Finally, I have installed the modified Steptronic gear selector into my '07 335i Coupe. This project started when after purchasing this modified shifter from another forum member, only to realize later, the wiring and plugs are completely screwed up. The seller had no idea how to provide me answers of how to install it (he claimed to be an electrical engineer).

I found Rodger via After Market Bulbs Shop who sells retrofit kits of the SMG shifter for the E9X. I figured Rodger is more than capable enough to figure out a solid solution of merging the BMW 6 series Steptronic shifter wiring harness to the existing wiring harness of the Steptronic E9X.

As you can tell from the pictures, it works brilliantly. The shifter is easy to shift, throws no codes, no issues, and no wiring harness pinching that may cause a short.

Rodger has created a more compact circuit board than seen by Nacho26. It took only a 3-4 minutes to install. Sweet and easy.

If you have any technical questions, Rodger E90post's forum name is Schulrog or go to http://www.motivemods.com/category-s/307.htm

Looks awesome

Did you cut down your shift lever as is stated on his site?

Mebbe you could talk Rodger into doing Group Buy with discounts at 5 or 10 buyers?

I'm still thinking about whether or not to cut the shifter stalk or not. At this time, the shifter's height is not bothering me. Although there is a height differential between this one and the SMG version which is shorter.

My direction (and follow up suggestion to Rodger) is the place a ABS or neoprene pad between the wire loom and the stalk to prevent any shorting. I'm not sure to the consequences when returning the leased car if the stalk has been cut. I believe it will be the decision for the owner whether to cut or not.

The group buy is good idea, as long there's enough interest. Ultimately, it's up to Rodger. I just happen to be first one to get one.

Thanks, the shifter boot is from the Performance Accessory Line and Popular Gray veneer wood trim panels.

For those who don't know, this shifter is available on the 2011 335 IS model with textured aluminum “glacier” trim and dark silver finish .

looks good i wanted this at one time but now have the performance shifter. what i would really like is to have the gear numbers come up in the dash so instead of having just D it shows what gear you are in as it does when its in manual mode anyone know if this is possible.

Yeah when you're in the steptronic manual mode, the "D" gets replaced with "M and number" of gear. Regardless if you have this gear shifter or standard shifter.

I was at the dealer yesterday to pick up a part, and they had a 335IS on the front lot. I checked out the height of the shifter, and yes it was shorter than mine by at least 1/2 to 3/4. I 'm still deciding whether to cut the stalk or not, but I do like the new shifter gaiter though.

You can't accidently push the knob into R because it will only shift when you press on the brake pedal.

I'm going to do this mod after OSS and m-tech front..

The 370 isn't just for the knob. It's for the knob, harness and custom built circuit board to make all this work. Also, the harness fits perfectly under the baseplate so there are no tangled wires and functionality is 100% guaranteed
