Lift up the carpet next to the front seats (between door and seat at the join) and check that the wire is connected to the underseat speakers. Sometimes the audio guys use the signal for additional subs in the boot.

you can use the earthquake SWS8, or the Pioneer FLAT 8", these are the ones that fit in the current enclosure, there are a number of 6.5" split systems that fit too, but the grills then stick out.

In my 08 e92, I can't really hear the subs doing anything either and can only barely feel them moving. Wonder if this is my problem as to....Do you guys usually hear them specifically hit. I always just thought they were designed to blend in well to the rest of the sound so you didn't hear them specifically.

The stock E9x system without logic7 is a very underpowered system as proven by the many people complaining about the sound. There is a distinct lack of bass, especially midbass in the saloons. I have personally replaced my underseat subs with Infinity 6.5" mid bass driver that is now powered by an amp in the boot and boy is there a marked improvement in the mid-bass and as stated you can actually feel the music now!

Word of warning, if you dont have a logic7 system, dont try and amplify the stock underseat subs as they are 2ohm to work more efficient on the low power from the head unit. I amplified my stock subs and consequently melted the coils on both subs, hence the replacement :-)
